I’m going to list the possible companions and give you details about each one, including what perk they give. Please visit the Fallout 4 Guide List for any other guides.

This guide will go over everything about companions in Fallout 4 including:

  • Companion Basics – Info on everything a companion can do.
  • Companion Locations – Where you can find each companion.
  • Companion Perk List – The perks that each companion gives at max affection level.

Companion Basics

Companions can come with you on your journey, but only one at a time. You can give them items to hold and equip them with weapon and armor. They will attack enemies during fights, but make sure you don’t accidentally shoot them.

They also have their own personalities and will comment on your choices. There are 2 perks that are useful when using companions:

  • Attack Dog (CHR 4) – Your dog companion can hold an enemy, giving you a greater chance to hit them in V.A.T.S.
    • Rank 2 (Level 9) – When your dog holds an enemy, there is a chance he’ll cripple the limb he’s biting.
    • Rank 3 (Level 25) – Chance to cause enemy to bleed when dog holds them.
  • Inspirational (CHR 8) – Companions do more damage in combat and cannot hurt you.
    • Rank 2 (Level 19) – Companions resist more damage in combat and can’t be harmed by your attacks.
    • Rank 3 (Level 43) – Companions can carry more items.
