With the release of Fields of Mistria, a new farming simulator on Steam, many players started wondering if it could rival the top farming sim game, Stardew Valley. Here, I’ll compare both Fields of Mistria and Stardew Valley and try to understand which one’s better.
How Similar Are Fields of Mistria and Stardew Valley
The main themes of both games are farming, crafting, and forming bonds with the locals. In both Fields of Mistria and Stardew Valley, you can take part in community events, farm animals, and grow crops, among other activities. Fields of Mistria, just like Stardew Valley, lets players explore a vibrant world full of exciting gameplay mechanics, including mining, fighting, and fishing.
Fans of retro graphics will enjoy Fields of Mistria‘s 90s-style pixel art look, which is evocative of Stardew Valley‘s art style. That’s one of the main reasons why so many people find both of these games so similar, because of their visual resemblance.
In this regard, both games offer similar experiences, although Stardew Valley is a much more popular option when it comes to pixel-based farming simulators.
How Different Are Fields of Mistria and Stardew Valley
Jumping in Fields of Mistria
It’s no secret that you can’t jump in Stardew Valley, which is possible in Fields of Mistria. This crucial mechanic makes the game so much more enticing than regular walking in Stardew Valley. Although this may add another layer of challenge to the gameplay, I prefer to be able to jump in my farming sim, which is why Fields of Mistria takes the cake this time.
Narrative Differences
Stardew Valley has a much more straightforward and personal account of farming and life simulation than Fields of Mistria. The latter game opens a whole new narrative, where you have to help the local communities prepare for potential disasters and restoration projects. If you’re looking for a more streamlined narrative with proper tasks and community interactions, then Fields of Mistria offers a much richer experience in that regard.
No Multiplayer in Fields of Mistria
Unfortunately, Fields of Mistria has no multiplayer option, whereas Stardew Valley allows up to 18 players to take part in a survival sim world of their choice. This is, of course, a big deal, as being able to foster your community with the help of real players can really uplift your entire gameplay experience. But at this stage of development, Fields of Mistria has no such luxury.
Early Access vs. Full Game
Speaking of unrealized potential, Fields of Mistria is still in Early Access, and that means there’s still a very long way until a full release. At the same time, Stardew Valley is a fully realized game with a massive playerbase and tons of content to choose from. Of course, if you want to try something new and similar to Stardew Valley, then Fields of Mistria definitely fits the bill. But if you’re looking for a complete gaming experience, then Stardew Valley is still the king of the hill.
Which Is Best, Fields of Mistria or Stardew Valley?
At this stage, I think that Stardew Valley is a much better option than Fields of Mistria, which still has a number of issues to solve, including:
- Lack of content due to the Early Access stage of development.
- Optimization and performance.
- Repetitive gameplay.
- Lack of a rich storyline and narrative.
Of course, if you want to try something fresh, then Fields of Mistria does look like a fantastic alternative to Stardew Valley. But if you’re looking for a complete experience with a fully fleshed-out story, characters, and mechanics, then I’d definitely stick to Stardew Valley for the time being.
That’s all I wanted to tell you about the Fields of Mistria vs. Stardew Valley rivalry. Stay tuned for more FoM tips and tricks articles right here.
