Chapter 5 Season 1 of Fortnite introduces an interesting new mechanic: weapon modifications. Some increase your scoped view, while others reduce recoil and improve accuracy. They make you — and your opponents — deadlier. Here, I detail all of the weapon mods in Fortnite and where to find all the benches.

Epic has vaulted Upgrade Benches and Crafting Stations, with the Weapons Mod Bench arriving for the first time in Chapter 5 Season 1. The Benches allow you to add custom upgrades to various aspects of your gun and resemble the loadout customization systems in games like Call of Duty.

Best Fortnite Weapon Mods to Get First

Each upgrade will display its ability before you lock it down and buy it. While the Optic scope options are nice, I recommend focusing on the Magazine, Barrel, and Underbarrel mods to really see the difference in your gunfights. So, if you’re pinching pennies, get those first.

Weapon Mod Rarity Tiers Explained

Notably, you can find weapons in-match that already have mods attached to them. So, I recommend you only seek out the Weapons Mod Bench if it’s not going to ruin your odds of survival. The pre-installed weapon mods work based on the rarity system. Here’s how it breaks down.

  • Uncommon Rarity Weapon
    • One pre-installed mod.
  • Rare Rarity Weapon
    • Two pre-installed mods.
  • Epic Rarity Weapon
    • Three pre-installed mods.
  • Legendary Rarity Weapon
    • Four pre-installed mods.

Chapter 5 Season 1 has upped the challenge for weapon upgrades. You can only find Weapon Mod benches at Big Boss NPC locations. Furthermore, you’ll need to defeat the Big Boss and obtain the Society Medallion they carry.

Once you pick up their Medallion, you’ll see a new path directing you to the vault that contains the Weapons Mod Bench. You can only open the vault door once you have the Society Medallion. Keep in mind that a big yellow circle will show other players your location.

  • Snooty Steppes
  • Fencing Fields
  • Reckless Railways
  • Grand Glacier
  • Lavish Lair
