Affection is a mechanic in Pokemon Sun and Moon that can boost your pokémon’s ability to dodge and survive attacks that would otherwise knock them out. It turns out to be pretty handy when battling other pokémon, so doing things like petting and feeding your pokémon beans are worth your time.
Another way to raise Affection is by feeding pokémon malasada, a donut-like dessert (its name translates to “poorly cooked”). This sweet treat can be found at malasada shops in Hau’oli City, Royal Avenue and Malie City.
Malasadas come in a variety of flavors, with each being liked or hated by certain Natures of pokémon. Giving a pokémon a malasada flavor it really likes will boost Affection significantly. Flavors pokémon are neutral about still boosts Affection, but not by much, and disliked flavors only give one heart of Affection.
If you are considering buying a malasada for quickly bonding with your pokémon, you should know that only certain shops sell certain flavors.

*Mystical malasada is the rarest of the treats and has the highest boost for Affection. To find out where this flavor is being sold, just break into someone’s home and watch television (but don’t steal anything!). An announcer will say what mystical flavor is on the menu for the area.
