Heroes of the Storm – Gazlowe Guide

A basic overview along with a few suggested builds for playing Gazlowe in Heroes of the Storm.
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Welcome to the Heroes of the Storm build guide for Gazlowe. In this guide, you will find basic information on the game and Gazlowe, as well as tips on how to play and build him.

Recommended Videos

In Heroes of the Storm, Gazlowe is a melee specialist. His kit allows him to deal damage to enemy heroes or to wreck enemy minions, structures, and Mercenary Camps.

Gazlowe is best served as a semi-jungler. He can easily take out mercenary camps on his own with a couple of turrets. He can also hold his own in team fights and help set up combos with the team. He should lane with a melee champion, preferably a support or a warrior.

This guide will break down into five categories:

  • Starter Abilities – The abilities your character starts with at the beginning of the match.
  • Heroic Abilities – Pick from one of these two ultimate-like abilities at team level 10
  • Talents – The character improvements you can choose from to custom build your hero
  • Talent Builds – Recommended builds that I have personally found success with
  • Playstyle Tips – Extra information about the character to help you play your best

Starter Abilities

  • Salvager (D)
  • Passive: Destroyed enemy Structures and your Rock-It! Turrets drop scrap. Collecting scrap restores 30 mana and reduces ability cooldowns by 6 seconds over 3 seconds.
  • Active: Dismantle a target Rock-It! Turret and turn it into scrap.

  • Rock-It! Turret (Q)
  • Charge Cooldown: 15 seconds
  • 70 mana
  • Creates a turret that deals 150 (36 + 6 per level) damage. Lasts for 30 seconds.

  • Deth Lazor (W)
  • Cooldown: 15 seconds
  • 75 mana
  • Charged attack that deals 60 to 120 damage to enemies in path. Damage and range increase the longer the ability is charged up.

  • Xplodium Charge (E)
  • Cooldown: 12 seconds
  • 60 mana
  • Places a bomb that deals 465 (85 + 20 per level) damage to enemies within target area after 2.5 seconds, stunning them for 2 seconds.

Heroic Abilities (Choose One)

  • Robo-Goblin (R)
  • Cooldown: 100 seconds
  • Duration: 16 seconds.
  • Transforms into a Robo-Goblin. Basic Attacks gain 250% damage against minions and structures and reduces the duration of Crowd Control effects by 50%.

  • Grav-O-Bomb 3000 (R)
  • Cooldown: 90 seconds
  • 100 mana
  • Pulls enemies towards the center of the target area after a 1.5 second delay and deals 670 (176 + 26 per level) damage.

Talents (Choose One from Each Tier)

Tier 1

  • Regeneration Master: Gather 3 Regeneration Globes to permanently grant you +3 health per second. Stacks.
  • Demolitionist: Basic Attacks against enemy structures destroy 2 ammo.
  • Scrap-o-Matic Smelter (Trait): Increases the amount of mana restored by scrap to 60.
  • Break it Down! (Trait): Increases the cooldown reduction granted by scrap to 9 over 3.07 seconds.
Tier 2

  • Superiority: Reduce damage taken from non-heroic enemies by 50%.
  • Minion Killer: You deal 25% increased damage to Minions and Mercenaries.
  • Reduce Reuse Recycle (Trait): Enemy minions that die near you have a 15% chance to drop scrap.
  • Clockwerk Steam Fists: Basic Attacks increase the duration of your active Rock-It! Turrets.
  • Promote: Give target allied lane minion +200% permanent health and +100% permanent damage.
Tier 3

  • Rock-It! Turret XL (Q): Turrets can hit up to 2 additional targets for 50% of normal turret damage.
  • Mercenary Lord: Mercenary camps you capture gain the following bonuses: Siege Giants gain 50% increased damage and Knights gain 50% increased health.
  • Sapping Turret (Q): Rock-it! Turrets also slow their target by 25% for 2 seconds.
  • First Aid: Activate to heal 7.9% of your max health over 4 seconds.
  • Calldown: MULE (Thumbnail Missing): Repairs the target structure, granting it health and ammo over 30 seconds.
Tier 4

  • Grav-O-Bomb 3000 (R): Pulls enemies toward its center. Deals 150 damage.
  • Robo-Goblin (R): Reduces the duration of Crowd Control effects by 50% and Basic Attacks deal +250% damage to minions and structures.
Tier 5

  • Burning Rage: Deals 10 damage per second to nearby enemies.
  • Kwik Release Charge (E): Xplodium Charge can now be cast twice in rapid succession.
  • EZ-PZ Dimensional Ripper (W): Deth Lazor slows Heroes and freezes minions or structures for 3 seconds.
  • Sprint: Activate to increase Movement Speed by 75% for 3 seconds.
Tier 6

  • Long-Ranged Turrets (Q): Increases Rock-it! Turret attack range by 25%.

  • Hyperfocus Coils (W): Your Deth Lazor charges twice as fast.
  • Stoneskin: Activate to gain 30% of your max health in Shields for 5 seconds.
Tier 7

  • Swift Storm: Reduces the cast time of Hearthstone to 2 seconds. Increases mount speed to +60% move speed.
  • Miniature Black Hole (R): Increases the radius of Grav-O-Bomb 3000 by 25% and its damage by 50%.
  • Mecha-Lord (R): Basic Attacks gain 130% damage to heroes and increase the duration of Robo-Goblin by .5 seconds per hit.

Talent Builds

Minion and Merc Killin’ Machine Gazlowe
  • Scrap-o-Matic Smelter (Trait): This will help you sustain enough mana to drop turrets.
  • Minion Killer: One of the key parts of this build.
  • Rock-it! Turret XL (Q) or Mercenary Lord: I prefer the former talent, but the latter could work well.
  • Robo-Goblin: Allows you to take on tougher merc camps earlier.
  • Kwik Release Charge (E): More stuns mean less damage taken by you.
  • Turret Storage (Q): Similar line of reasoning as Robo-Goblin.
  • Mecha-Lord (R): Robo-Goblin finally becomes useful in team fights.

This is a build that really allows Gazlowe to shine as a specialist. You can take on solo merc camps that are a few levels higher than you thanks to your stuns, turrets, and heroic. You will also be able to push lanes insanely hard. You won’t be as useful in a team fight, so, coordinate with your allies in order to make sure they have a comp built around having a weak team fight fifth hero.

Gazlowe the Hero Slayer
  • Scrap-o-Matic Smelter (Trait): Same reason as the previous build. Gazlowe needs as much mana as he can get.
  • Reduce Reuse Recycle (Trait): Gives you an incentive to stay in lane and kill minions.
  • Rock-it! Turret XL (Q) or Sapping Turret (Q): Pick whichever sounds most appealing. First Aid might be a good choice if you don’t have a healer.
  • Grav-O-Bomb 3000: A great ability that can really change up team fights.
  • Kwik Release Charge (E) or EZ-PZ Dimensional Ripper (W): Depends on which ability you prefer.
  • Turret Storage (Q) or Hyperfocus Coils (W): Same as above.
  • Miniature Black Hole (R): Makes this awesome heroic even better.

This build is great for doing damage to enemy heroes and being useful in team fights. Your Grav-O-Bomb works well with other AoE abilities. Try and sync it up with an ally’s heroic or with your E.

Gazlowe Playstyle Tips

Managing Mana
  • Gazlowe is extremely mana hungry.
  • Watch your mana bar as carefully as you can.
  • Try not to enter team fights without close to full mana.
  • See if you can get a friend to lane with you as Malfurion for their Innervate skill.
Turrets are a Goblin’s Best Friend
  • Turrets are like having half Heroes basic attacking the enemy for you.
  • They are extremely useful in team fights and merc camp fights.
  • When jungling, try to set them down before initiating a fight with a creep. This will save you health.
Holy Scrap
  • Scrap is one of the most important parts of playing Gazlowe.
  • Always pick up scrap.
  • More scrap means more mana and lower cooldowns.
  • If a turret is no longer in use, scrap it.
Deth Lazor and Xplodium Charge
  • Deth Lazor is not to be used in an actual fight.
  • It is meant to snipe and harass heroes with.
  • The charge takes too long and makes Gazlowe way too vulnerable to use in a fight if you are being attacked.
  • Xplodium Charges have a wait time.
  • Try to anticipate where your enemy is going.
  • Place one in front of you while escaping to try and hit an enemy to ensure your safety.
