Hogwarts Legacy lets you choose how you want to approach some challenges you face throughout the game, and there are times that using a stealthy method can be beneficial. In those cases, Petrificus Totalus is a must-have technique.
As you delve deeper into the mysteries of the wizarding world with your mentor, Professor Fig, you come across groups of enemies that can be overwhelming if you try to fight them head-on. While it’s possible to do so, Professor Fig will suggest using Disillusionment during a main quest, and then say that you should use a spell called Petrificus Totalus.
How to Use Petrificus Totalus in Hogwarts Legacy
Professor Fig’s wording might make it seem like Petrificus Totalus is a spell that you’ll put on your action bar, but it’s actually used in a way similar to Ancient Magic. The spell you will need on your action bar, however, is Disillusionment.
In order to use Petrificus Totalus, you must be invisible, and the Disillusionment Charm is the best option in this case since it lasts much longer than an Invisibility Potion. Once you’re hidden, sneak behind the enemy you want to petrify. When you’re close to the enemy, you’ll get a prompt to use the interact control key (Square/X/F by default).
Use the prompt, and you’ll cast Petrificus Totalus on the target, effectively removing the enemy from combat. If you’re careful, you might be able to avoid combat with this method. However, reducing the number of enemies before combat is also a viable strategy.
