Honkai Star Rail: Should You Let Dan Shu Go or Battle Her?

Here's the difference between letting Dan Shu go or choosing to battle in Honkai Star Rail.

Honkai Star Rail has plenty of twists and turns within its Trailblaze Missions. One moment that’s sure to cause some hesitation is when you meet Dan Shu in Sinners Misled, Credence Falsified. Indeed, you may be wondering if you should let Dan Shu go or battle her. Our guide will walk you through both choices and tell you the consequences.

Should You Battle Dan Shu or Let Her Go in Sinners Misled, Credence Falsified?

Sinners Misled, Credence Falsified is the latest Trailblaze Mission available as of the time of this writing (May 12, 2023). You’ll confront Dan Shu near the end of the mission and will be provided with two choices: Battle with Dan Shu or Let Dan Shu Go. Here’s what happens with each choice.

Choice 1: Battle with Dan Shu

Choosing to battle Dan Shu won’t actually result in a fight against her. She’ll walk away and leave two waves of her Disciples in your way instead. The first wave consists of two Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Internal Alchemist, while the second wave has the following five enemies to fight:

  • 2x Mara-Struck Soldier
  • 2x Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Internal Alchemist
  • 1x Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Shape Shifter

When it comes to which character types to use in this fight, I recommend Imaginary, Wind, Ice, and Physical. If you’re mainly using the free characters and don’t have an Imaginary type, feel free to double down on one or bring in a Fire or Quantum type. Make sure to have some characters that can perform AoE attacks as well, since it’s easy to be overwhelmed here.

The goal is to clear the field and gang up on the Shape Shifter enemy. It has the annoying ability to sacrifice HP to spawn two Mara-Struck soldiers. As long as a Mara-Struck is on the field and has yet to use its Rebirth ability, the Shape Shifter will be able to restore HP every time it attacks.

Give priority to characters that take advantage of the enemy’s weakness to proc a Weakness Break as soon as possible. I found March 7th’s Glacial Cascade Ultimate to be one of the most useful here. It’s effective against most enemies in the battle and has a 50% chance of freezing them. Once all of the enemies are defeated, you’ll return to see that Dan Shu has gotten away.

Choice 2: Let Dan Shu Go

If you’re feeling conflicted because of the friendship you made with Dan Shu (attempted drugging aside), you can choose to let her go and won’t need to fight anyone. There are a few extra lines of dialog, and it feels a lot more amicable, but the scene plays out quite similarly to the one before you fight her minions.

Does It Matter If You Let Dan Shu Go or Fight Her?

The Xianzhou Luofu story is still ongoing, and Dan Shu is seemingly set to play one of the biggest roles in it. It’s unlikely that this choice to fight her or not will have a large impact on future story content beyond some dialogue differences. Instead, just go with what feels right to you, or base it on whether you feel like having an enemy encounter.

Hopefully, that answered any questions you had about letting Dan Shu go or battling her in Honkai Star Rail. For other questions that spring up while you’re on the Xianzhou Luofu, such as how to complete the Pawnbroker Handian quest, our Honkai Star Rail guides library can help.
