One of the biggest boss fights around the mid-game of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the False Dragon at Dragonsbreath Tower. This is the same creature that attacked Melve at the start of the Readvent of Calamity quest. Here’s how to defeat the Dragon at Dragonsbreath Tower in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
How to Kill the Dragonsbreath Tower Dragon in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The easiest way to beat the Dragon at Dragonsbreath Tower is to treat it like a Golem fight, where you focus on targeting its numerous boil/pustule weakspots. Let’s analyze your general strategy and attacks to avoid and then move on to what you should bring to the fight. Your primary concern are these pustule weakspots located on:
- The right side of the dragon’s neck, there are two here.
- The head of the dragon.
- The front right claw.
- The upper part of the front left claw.
Destroying these pustules causes both great damage but also staggers the dragon. I found great success with Thief and Archer/Magick Archer since they can precisely target weakspots by either climbing or shooting them. When the dragon is staggered immediately use this opportunity to either use your alternative skill (Triangle on PS5) on its head.
Alternatively, this is the perfect moment for slower vocations like Warrior or Sorcerer/Mage to charge up powerful spells. These three vocations are also decent because their AOE attacks from either the greatsword or the stave and archistave hit multiple pustules. If you’re a Warrior, I recommend the upgraded Heavenward Sunder. It can hit a couple of pustules and deal great damage, especially if you hit the head. Pustules regenerate after a while, so you can damage them again.
There are three major attacks to avoid. First, when the dragon flies up to the air, move away from the location where he took flight as he’ll crash down, dealing AOE damage. Second, when you see him charging his fire breath, immediately start running behind his body towards the back legs or tail if he’s flying. Hiding behind the cover works, too. This is important since I found that the breath can quickly turn sideways and hit you. Third, the dragon’s chest will start spilling acid, so be sure to move back when this happens.
How to Prepare for the Dragon Fight in Dragon’s Dogma 2
There are some pawn and equipment choices that make the fight drastically easier. First off, I highly recommend bringing a Mage pawn with the Argent Tonic skill, as they’ll sustain your entire team. If you’re playing a Thief or Warrior, a Sorcerer can also be worthwhile for AOE weakspot damage.
If you’re playing Archer, then the Warriors can deal decent damage in conjunction with your shots. Fighter pawns aren’t the best here as they can’t deal reliable damage, and their aggro won’t work as well since the dragon has several AOE attacks.
One important note is that Sigurd will also accompany you in this fight. I recommend sticking close to him when you can since he’ll buff nearby allies with Mirour Vesture, a Mystic Spearhand skill that greatly reduces damage taken. As for equipment, here are some tips:
- Make sure you have the best weapons and armor for your vocation from Bakbatthal.
- Bring plenty of HP and Stamina curatives, but a few Panaceas will generally do the trick.
- Savagery Extracts will boost your damage, while Stoutness Extracts will boost your defenses.
- I would bring a couple of Quenching Syrup items to clear the torched condition if you get hit by a breath attack.
