Once you have the best mounts and animals in Soulmask, you’ll want to ensure you’re taking good care of them by feeding them and providing them with water. All animals have different food preferences and feed that they like, so here’s what to collect for each one and how to make them.
How to Feed Animals in Soulmask — All Feed Recipes
If you have a wide range of animals at your camp, then you’ll need to collect the right foods for each one. They don’t all like the same types. Llamas and alpacas might eat similarly, but they differ vastly from what jaguars or leopards like.
Best Food For Every Animal in Soulmask
You can use each animal’s preferred food to bait them into traps, as well as satisfy their hunger after capturing them. Here’s a look at what food each tamable animal likes:
Animal | Foods They Like |
---|---|
Alpaca | Thatch Potato Pumpkin Corn Banana Pineapple Peanut Alpaca Feed Refined Alpaca Feed |
Capybara | Nut Peanut Cashew Quinoa Pumpkin Corn Banana Pineapple Potato Tomato Papaya Guava Capybara Feed Refined Capybara Feed |

You can feed your animals individual food items that you harvest from your farm or the wild, but most of the time, you’ll want to cook up some feed, which will satisfy the animals’ hunger more effectively.
How to Make Animal Feed
You can unlock the recipes for all the various types of animal feed in your Knowledge & Technology menu (T on your keyboard). The Feed Processing tech is within the Animal Breeding branch. This unlocks the basic recipes for feed for most animals. You can also unlock refined feed later under the Advanced Feed tech.
Once the recipes are unlocked, you can make the Feed at a Cooking Stove. Only a few animals don’t have this type of feed: Jaguars, Snow Leopards, and Monkeys. Instead, you’ll feed them the other foods that they like, as listed above. Here are all the recipes for feed for the animals that do eat it:

How to Feed Animals in Soulmask
After you have the food for your animals, you can feed it to them in two different ways: a Feed Trough or directly giving it to them.
If you want your animal to satisfy some hunger instantly, the easiest way to approach them is to hold E on them. This will open their inventory slots and allow you to drag over the food item. Then, (just like feeding a Tribesmen) press E on the object to make them eat it.
How to Make a Feed Trough
A great way to feed your animals automatically is by crafting a Feed Trough. You’ll unlock the Feed Trough in the Animal Breeding tech under Pen. Then, you can craft it at a Building Workshop with the following materials:
- Plank x19
- Rough Leather x5
- Thick Rope x2
After crafting it, place it down in a spot that your animals can easily access. Then, you can fill it with the food they like. You can place multiple types of food in one trough if you want to. Just hold E on the trough to open its inventory and drag the food items over to an empty slot.
The animals will automatically eat from the trough as long as it’s food that they like. If you notice they aren’t eating from it, try moving its location or double-checking the threshold the animal’s auto-feed is set. You can approach them, hold E for their options, and go into Behavior Settings. Adjust the auto-eating and auto-drinking to a higher percentage if you want them to eat and drink more often.
How to Give Animals Water
Although it’s not food, water is still important to give to your animals to keep them happy and healthy. Similarly to how you feed them, you can also provide them water — with a Water Trough.
You’ll unlock the Water Trough at the same time as the Feed Trough, and you can make it on the Building Workshop. You’ll need the following materials:
- Plank x23
- Wooden Handle x6
Once you get the trough placed, the hardest part is actually filling it with water. You’ll need a water source and a transfer vessel to put water in it. Alternatively, you can just wait for it to rain, which will fill it automatically. Here are some items you can make to transfer water:
Water Source/Vessel | How to Make |
---|---|
Well | Thatch x19 Clay x19 Thin Rope x10 Log or Hardwood x10 |
Rainwater Collector | Clay x20 Ceramic Mold x2 Wooden Handle x8 Thick Rope x5 |
Water Bucket | Plank x10 Copper Ingot x4 Wooden Handle x2 |
Water Tank | Clay x20 Leather Rope x2 Ceramic Mold x2 |
When you’re done making these, make sure to equip your vessel. Then, approach the water source (it can also be just a river if you don’t have the means to make a well or rain collector), and you’ll see a prompt to “Take Water.”
This will fill up your vessel completely and you can take it over to the trough to fill that as well. With the trough filled, the animals will automatically drink whenever they need it, just like the Feed Trough.
With food and water, your animals will stay happy and grow faster. Keep a constant supply on you to keep restocking them. Even if you can’t make the actual feed, there are plenty of foods you can harvest from the wild that will still keep them fed.
