Each Vocation has its own maister that teaches you the ultimate skill for that class. There are two Thief maisters found in the Nameless Village, and I’ll show you how to reach both and learn their secret Thief skill. Here’s how to find the Thief maister in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
How to Unlock Thief’s Ultimate Skills in Dragon’s Dogma 2
You can learn various secret Thief skills like Pyre of the Blades or Formless Faint, by getting the ability scrolls from Flaude, the fake maister, and Srail, the true Thief maister, in the Nameless Village. There are two ways you can come across this location, and there’s even some great Thief gear here. One is by randomly finding it on your way to Vernworth and the other is by going on The Nameless Village quest which points you to this location. Either way, Srail is the true Thief maister and Flaude is an acting one. Flaude is found at the top of the village at the Old Noble Manor.
You simply need to talk to him, and if you’re of the Thief vocation, he’ll give you the Pyre of the Blades through a Legend’s Opus scroll. Then, go into your inventory and use it as a consumable to learn the skill. I was a Rank 7 Thief, when I learned it, so you might also need to be in this Rank. However, since the game only allows one save file, I couldn’t reload and test this with a different rank or different Vocation.
Where is the Real Thief Maister in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Since Flaude is a “fake” maister acting as a front to the Nameless Village, there is actually a real Thief maister named Srail hidden below the village. To find him, you need to go beneath the Old Manor through the ladders located right behind the house.
Descend down into a cave system where you’ll have to do a jumping puzzle. I jumped on the middle wooden bridge, then to the left one, and finally to the right one to get across. From here, continue down the hallway and make a first right to jump over and grab a great Thief helmet from a chest. Then, go back and continue down the hallway to another jumping puzzle. You can cheese this platforming puzzle by falling below, going to the end of the puzzle where you can see the ladder, and abusing the Footpad core skill. It’s a bit finicky to pull off but essentially you need to jump off of the side wall and then aim your Footpad jump towards the ladder and you’ll climb right up skipping the puzzle.
Lastly, continue through the doorway to find Srail who’ll both give you some info if you’re doing The Nameless Village quest and give you another secret Thief skill. This one is called Formless Faint and it makes it so that your character auto-dodges any attack at a great cost of stamina if the skill is active.
Is Pyre of the Blades Good on Thieves in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
It’s not the best, the skill is very situational and is only ever worth it when combined with Formless Feint since it automatically dodges the self-damage and burn. Essentially, what it does is it causes you to explode setting yourself and your weapons on fire while dealing decent AOE damage around you. Doesn’t sound like much of a Thief skill but it can actually be somewhat useful with Formless Feint against groups of enemies. You can’t even use it while climbing enemies.
I would just bring Gut and Run for a much better damage option against bosses. That said, Formless Feint by itself isn’t bad and it has its defensive auto-dodge uses if you’re having trouble with the active dodge skill and don’t mind paying the stamina.
And that’s how to find the Thief maisters in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and learn their ultimate Thief skills. For more Dragon’s Dogma 2 guides check out how to complete the Masquerade quest as well as how to find the Mystic Spearhand maister.
