Matchmaking Error #1 is an issue indicating problems with queuing, which usually shows up on the day of, and sometimes days after, a major patch, update, or event in Fortnite. Here, I’ll cover how to fix Matchmaking Error #1 in Fortnite, whether you’re playing solo or droppin’ with friends.

Fortnite: How to Fix Matchmaking Error #1

If you’re unable to matchmake in Fortnite, it’s safe to assume other players are experiencing the same issue. Matchmaking Error #1 is definitely frustrating, preventing you from loading into Creative Maps, jump into duos, or even finish a tutorial. I’ve experienced this queuing problem mainly when there’s an influx of players trying to join matches, straining Fortnite’s servers, especially if the game just came back up after extended downtime. Here are some possible fixes you can try to resolve Matchmaking Error #1.

Restart the Game

It’s standard advice, I know, but I wouldn’t be doing my due diligence if I didn’t mention it. If the Fortnite servers are up and running, it’s worth restarting the game to give yourself a fresh start and resolve the issue.

Restart Your Device

Whether you’re playing on PC or console, I’ve found that restarting your device is worth it, as well. This is a low-effort solution, and most of the time, it’ll clear bugs, network, or matchmaking issues.

Update Fortnite

When new content drops for Fortnite, make sure you’ve updated your game. More often than not, an update will trigger automatically with a new patch. But if you’re experiencing odd errors like Matchmaking Error #1, then it’s worth checking your Epic Games launcher on PC for an update. You can also inspect the game on consoles to see if it’s updated.

Remove Your Fortnite Custom Game Code

Some players have found that removing the Custom game code will resolve Matchmaking Error #1. To do so, go into Custom options and delete the code. From there, try to queue again. If you’re still experiencing issues, it’s also worth restarting your game or device to ensure the change takes effect.

Change Your Region

To fix Matchmaking Error #1, you can also try changing your region to auto in Fortnite. Alternatively, some players also found that switching their region from auto to a specific region can work as well.

Wait for the Team to Investigate and Fix the Matchmaking Error

I always recommend double-checking @FortniteStatus on X to see if the team is aware of the issue. If it’s widespread, all you can usually do is wait for a fix to roll out.

Why am I Getting Matchmaking Error #1 in Fortnite?

Most matchmaking problems in Fortnite arrive when the servers are overwhelmed following an event or patch. New content and server stability don’t go hand-in-hand, unfortunately. If you have a consistent internet connection and normally don’t experience errors like this one, you’re right to assume it’s on Fortnite’s side of things rather than yours. For continuous problems, I suggest heading over to the Epic Games support page to submit a ticket and see what errors are currently being investigated.
