The gems themselves are rewards for reaching specific Renown levels with the expansion’s new factions. Since they’re Warband rewards, you only earn them once. You earn them at Renown 4, 8, and 20 for Council of Dornogal, Renown 4, 15, and 20 for The Assembly of the Deeps, Renown 5 and 20 for Hallowfal Arathi, and Renown 9 and 20 for The Severed Threads. This means that you’re limited to a total of 10 Earth-Encrusted Gems, even if you level multiple characters. As for their purpose, you use them to purchase cosmetic sets that can be used to transmog your gear!

How to Use Earth-Encrusted Gems in WoW: The War Within

When you’re ready to trade your gems for cosmetics, you need to head to Osidion. Osidion is found in Dornogal in the area where most profession trainers are gathered along with the Trading Post. To make things simple, I’ve marked his location on the map above. Although there are six different sets, you can purchase them in a variety of recolors. Additionally, you can unlock more recolor options by completing more in-game content, such as earning achievements like Loremaster of Khaz Algar, which gives you the Crimson Cartographer’s Orientation.
