How to Get and Use Starsail Coins in Genshin Impact

The Summertides Scales and Tales event has a new currency: Starsail Coins. Here's how to get them and what they do.

With the release of the 4.8 update to Genshin Impact, we have a new limited event region, the Simulanka. And with the limited event comes a new currency: Starsail Coins. You’ll be earning these alongside modest rewards, and you’ll get some equally modest but still significant rewards for using them. Here’s how to do both.

How to Get Starsail Coins in Genshin Impact

There is only one way to get more Starsail Coins during the Genshin Impact 4.8 limited event period: by completing special activities within Simulanka. The three activities — Boreal Flurry, Flying Hatter’s Trick, and Metropole Trials — award a set number of Starsail Coins. These rewards are as follows:

  • Complete the Activity: 30 Primogems, 25 Starsail Coins, 20,000 Mora, and character Talent upgrade materials.
  • Pass the first point threshold: 15 Starsail Coins, 20,000 Mora, 3 Hero’s Wit XP items.
  • Pass the second score threshold: 5 Starsail Coins, 20,000 Mora, 3 Sanctifying Unction Artifact XP items.

Each challenge is unique to a particular region within Simulanka, and there are three levels to each challenge, making it possible to earn 135 Starsail Coins per region. The actual activity you need to play will, of course, be different for each region, with Boreal Flurry, the first available, being an on-rails shooter akin to Star Fox, where you need to pop enough balloons to breach the score thresholds.

There is no other way to get Starsail Coins than by doing the event-specific activities, and there doesn’t need to be. They’re more than plentiful enough so long as you complete all three challenge tiers per activity, per activity level. As for what to do with them, that’s next.

You’ll only find one use for Starsail Coins during the Summertide Scales and Tales event: Figurine Fabrication. In each area of the region, you can spend five or 25 Starsail Coins at once to pull on a (you guessed it) gachapon machine for a chance at random figurines of origami animals from that portion of the map. You get a single gachapon ball for every five Starsail Coins you spend, and each one has an adorable little animal figurine inside.

Now, if you’re wondering why you want to engage with the system, it’s the same reason you do anything in Genshin Impact: for more pulls, materials, and currency. Oh, and there’s a free 4-star character in it for you, too.

Let’s start with region-specific rewards. For fabricating figurines in each area of the Simulanka, you get:

  • For fabricating 15 figurines: 30 Primogems, 20,000 Mora, an outdoor Serenitea Pot Furnishing, character Talent XP material.
  • For fabricating 30 figures: 20,000 Mora, the same Serenitea Pot furnishing, 3 Hero’s Wit.
  • Placing eight figurines on the Good Shelf: 20,000 Mora, a third Serenitea Pot furnishing, 3 Sanctifying Unction Artifact XP material.

You can complete these tasks once per three regions for 90 Primogems plus three times the other rewards. However, the real reason you’ll want to fabricate as many figurines as possible is another part of the event: the Invite Character screen in the Summer Gifts section of the event menu.

Here, you get rewards for specific numbers of fabrications, plus a free Kirara 4-star character at 60 fabrications. The other rewards are as follows:

  • 15 Fabrications: 30 Primogems, 20,000 Mora, 3 Philosophies of Equity character Talent XP material.
  • 30 Fabrications: 30 Primogems, 20,000 Mora, 3 Philosophies of Justice character Talent XP material.
  • 45 Fabrications: 30 Primogems, 20,000 Mora, 3 Philosophies of Order character Talent XP material.
  • 60 Fabrications: 30 Primogems, 20,000 Mora, 3 Sanctifying Essence Artifact XP material.
  • 75 Fabrications: 30 Primogems, 20,000 Mora, 1 Crown of Insight pinnacle Talent material.

In other words, if you want every reward available in the Summertime Scales and Tales event (and as a pre-major update event, you do), you’ll need to participate in all the activities available. Doing so will get you all the Starsail Coins you need, which you can then spend on fabricating cute figurines, which will then get you the Primogems you really want.

It’s a process, but nothing worth having in life, and especially in Genshin Impact, is had without effort. Or money. You can always spend real money, and the game would really like you to, but doing so is completely optional if you have patience.
