How to Get Phaethon Mount in FFXIV

It’s hard to choose from the hundreds of mounts already in FFXIV, but Patch 6.3 makes that choice even harder by adding some dazzling new ones. Ixion is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy franchise, and now you can get a mount that’s a fiery version of Ixion called Phaethon. Unfortunately, the process for getting this mount is a bit more complicated than others, such as Blackjack and Logistics Node, so here’s everything you need to know. 

How to Unlock Phaethon in FFXIV

The Phaethon mount can be purchased from Nesvaaz in Radz-at-Han (X:10.6, Y:10.0). Select the “Out of this World Oddities” oddities option when talking to the merchant. However, you won’t be using typical currency. You’ll need three Burning Horns in order to purchase Phaethon, and those can only be gained by going to The Shifting Gynasion Agonon Treasure Dungeon.

Before we dive into that, do note that you can also use the Market Board to purchase a Phaethon Horn, but at the time of writing, the item is sitting around roughly 14 million gil. 

In order to get to The Shifting Gynasion Agonon you’ll need to collect Timeworn Ophiotauroskin Maps. We have a guide explaining how to get those in more depth, but essentially, you’ll need to either get the maps from Level 90 Gathering Nodes in Elips or Ultima Thule or by purchasing them at the Market Board.

Each Ophiotuaroskin Map has a chance of making the treasure dungeon appear, but it isn’t guaranteed. That means you’ll likely be putting in a bit of time to make the dungeon appear enough times to get three Burning Horns. Once you do, however, it’s just a simple matter of purchasing the Phaethon Horn and using it from your inventory.
