How to Get the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel in BG3

Here's how to get the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel in Baldur's Gate 3 and use it to its full potential.

The Band of the Mystic Scoundrel is a core item for many Gish builds that mix melee and magic. It allows you to cast Illusion and Enchantment spells as a Bonus Action after a melee attack. Here’s how to get the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Where Is the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Band of the Mystic Scoundrel in BG3 is located in the secret Jungle level only accessible through Akabi in Act 3. More specifically, you need to find Akabi the Genie at the Circus of the Last Days in Rivington and win his jackpot game by stealing his ring beforehand. Here’s how to access the Jungle:

  • Find Akabi by sticking to the left side of the Circus from the entrance and walk until you see a floating reddish Djinni.
  • Before speaking to Akabi, Pickpocket him and steal the Djinni Ring with a Sleight of Hand skill check. I highly recommend you bring a Rogue or Bard with Expertise in Sleight of Hand or a Cleric/Druid that can cast Guidance on the one attempting to steal the Ring. Make sure you’re in Stealth mode and that you’re not in the vision range of other people in the Circus.
  • Once you get the ring, hopefully unnoticed, speak to Akabi.
  • Agree to spin the wheel where you’ll win the game.
  • Akabi will become angry that you’ve won and transport the winning player to the Jungle level.

The Jungle is a mini area filled with dinosaurs. To grab the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel do the following before exiting:

  • Following the map above, head past the raptors into the cave with the massive dinosaur skeleton.
  • Jump over the skeleton. Even low-strength characters should be able to clear it in two jumps.

  • On the other side, you’ll see a tent with a human skeleton and a bag next to it.
  • Open the bag to loot the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel.

Exit the Jungle through the portal as shown on the map. I also recommend looking for the locked chest near the exit portal with the legendary trident Nyrulna inside.

Best Uses for Band of the Mystic Scoundrel

I highly recommend using the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel on all Swords Bard, Bardlock, Pact of the Blade Warlock, and Arcane Trickster builds. The Bonus Action spell after a melee attack is incredibly powerful both for low and higher-level spells. Pretty much any melee/magic hybrid build that has access to Illusion and Enchantment spells should use this ring.

Some of my favorite spells to use with the ring are Mirror Image, Hypnotic Pattern, Phantasmal Killer, Bless, Dissonant Whispers, and Hold Person/Monster. If you have access to Level 6 spells then you cannot go wrong with Otto’s Irresistible Dance. That said, any Illusion/Enchantment spell that usually takes an Action becomes drastically more powerful with this ring.

That concludes my guide on how to get the Band of the Mystical Scoundrel in BG3. For more Baldur’s Gate 3 guides, check out the best Warlock spells and best Bard gear.
