How to Get the Best Sunset Weapons in Destiny 2

Check out our tips on how to get your hands on the best Sunset weapons in Destiny 2!

Once upon a time, Destiny 2 sunset every Legendary weapon released before the Beyond Light expansion. Their Power could never be raised past a hard cap, meaning they were useless in endgame content. No, it didn’t go over well. Now, Bungie has decided to reverse course, so you’ll need to know how to get the best sunset weapons that broke Destiny 2 in half.

How to Find Sunset Weapons in Destiny 2

When The Final Shape expansion for Destiny 2 releases on June 4, 2024, every weapon in the game will fall under new Power progression rules, as described in the April 25 This Week in Destiny blog post. Part of these changes cause every weapon to be unbound from any Power limit, effectively ending sunsetting across the board.

Some of the best and most powerful weapons in Destiny 2 — Not Forgotten, Revoker, OG Mountaintop, and Recluse, among others — will be available for every player to use anywhere in the game. The same is true of weapons from past seasons no longer available in-game, from Black Armory to Season of Dawn and everywhere in between.

How, then, to get your hands on these weapons? There are a few ways:

Buy Sunset Sweapons From the Monument to Lost Lights kiosk in the Tower

You can still buy every seasonal ritual weapon from the kiosk, and all for the same price: 75,000 Glimmer, two Enhancement Prisms, and one Ascendant Shard. The busted-as-hell weapons like Not Forgotten and Revoker are no exception. We haven’t heard anything about a change to Revoker’s Reversal of Fortune Trait, which refunds one bullet if you miss one.

Both Recluse’s Master of Arms and Not Forgotten’s Magnificent Howl perks have been reworked, nerfed, or both, and the OG Mountaintop was brought to heel before returning with the BRAVE Arsensal. I’d expect everything that was once balance-shattering to be adjusted before their return, but we’ll just have to see.

Pick Up Previously Sunset Weapons from Seasonal Vendors.

If you’re reading this before The Final Shape release in Season of the Wish, each of the Seasonal vendors in the H.E.L.M. has at least an engram containing previously sunset weapons or weapons that are otherwise no longer available.

  • The War Table from Season of Defiance has Leviathan weapons from Season of Opulence (sunset) and Season of the Haunted. Focusing them costs two Defiant Engrams and 1,000 Glimmer.
  • Sonar Station from Season of the Deep has a selection of weapons from Season of the Drifter. Randomly focusing these costs two Deep Engrams and 3,000 Glimmer. Focusing a specific weapon costs four Deep Engrams and 3,000 Glimmer.
  • The Ritual Table from Season of the Witch offers upgraded Red War weapons, first seen in vanilla, Year 1 Destiny 2. Focusing that engram costs two Witches Engrams and 1,000 Glimmer.
  • The Spirit of Riven from Season of the Wish offers a small selection of weapons from Season of the Undying, the first-ever season during Year 3 of Destiny 2. Focusing on a random weapon costs two Wish Engrams and 3,000 Glimmer, while focusing on a specific weapon costs four Wish Engrams and 3,000 Glimmer.

Getting your hands on these refreshed sunset weapons can only, of course, happen before The Final Shape releases, and yes, I know they’re technically no longer sunset in the traditional sense.

Hope Sunset Weapons Return to the Gunsmith or Via Another Method

Bungie has outright stated that they have no way to return many sunset weapons to Destiny 2. They brought back some classics with the BRAVE Arsenal, but at least ten should have also returned. And we’ve seen in the trailer for The Final Shape that it appears weapons like Perfect Paradox from Season of Dawn are making their own comebacks.

That said, Bungie has made a habit of adding old weapons to the Gunsmith Banshee-44’s inventory, so unless there are more curated weapons coming back with the new Episodes seasonal model, that’s where I’d expect to see them.

If you want to get your hands on some of the other iconic weapons from Destiny 2 seasons past, I have bad news. You can’t. There is no item trading system in Destiny 2, and without the seasonal activities to farm them in, there is simply no way to get them. Black Armory, Season of Dawn, Season of the Outlaw — all of it, completely unattainable.

It’s not all bad news, thankfully. The Destiny 2 sandbox has evolved and grown in power tremendously since most of the sunset weapons were created, making their returns more of a nostalgia kick than anything else. And if you dismantled your collection of dusty Forsaken weapons, all you’ve probably lost is some fond memories with the gun.

Unless you had a god roll Mindbender’s Ambition. Then…yeah, you should feel sad.
