How to Get the Medusan Spellbow in Dragon’s Dogma 2 & Earn Bonus XP

Get yourself a Medusan Spellbow and earn not only a fancy new weapon, but the abilty to earn tons of additional XP as well.

Playing as an Archer in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and wish your skills used way more stamina for a bit less additional damage? Do you wish killing enemies with your bow was more rewarding? Then do I have the bow for you! The Medusand Spellbow, a heavy war bow hidden in the wilds of Battahl, does both. Also, it’s heavy, if that wasn’t clear.

Where to Find the Medusan Spell in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To get the Medusan Spellbow, you need to kill the Medusa boss in Nera’Battahl Windrift cave.

Before you can kill Medusa, you need to make your way into the southern region of Battahl, either by going through the checkpoint town with a permit or using the secret ways in. However you do it, take the main road south toward Bakbattahl, but rather than going into the city, keep going south until just before the bridge crossing that leads to the southernmost continent. You’re looking to take the path west into the Wyrmsblood Forest and the Nera’Battahl Windrift cave at its northern edge.

How to Beat the Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Medusas don’t have the biggest move pool in the game, but they don’t need one, either. Their petrifying vision, which you’ll know by the giant pink cone that comes out of their eyes, does a lot of the work for them. There are a couple of attacks you need to watch out for, though.

  • Tail Swipe: As simple as it sounds, the medusa swipes her tail in a 180-degree arc behind her body. Stay near her belly, and you’ll be fine. She can also swipe in front of herself if she chooses.
  • Arrow Shots: As the holder of the Medusan Bow, the medusa can use it when you’re far away, and it stings. A lot.
  • Coil: The medusa coils herself in a loose ball and spins, hoping to knock you off of holding her and bashing anything nearby.
  • Thrash: A move she’ll use if you’re on or near her head, the medusa thrashes about for a moment, tossing you into the air.
  • Petrify Gaze: Noting the attack here for completeness. The medusa emits a long, pink cone from her eyes and tracks you or one of your pawns relentlessly. If your pawn turns to stone, he’ll be dead without the possibility of a revival (you can resummon after the fight, however).

The easiest way to deal with Medusa is to climb onto her head and wail away with whatever weapon you have handy. Thief’s dual daggers and the Gut and Run skill work wonders here, though any class with the stamina to hang on and attack will do fine. Plus, if your head attack deals the finishing blow, you’ll get the Off with Its Head achievement, which is nice.

Once you have the Medusan Spellbow in hand, all that’s left to do is equip it as an Archer. The main problem? It weighs more than 15 kilograms and will easily encumber you unless you’re wearing the lightest armor and travel just as lightly.

As such, I actually recommend playing Warfarer when using the Medusan Spellbow and having three other weapons and vocation skills handy. The bow’s primary purpose isn’t damage, after all, and it vastly increases the stamina cost of any Archer skill you use. In return, you get a whopping four times the XP if you kill an enemy with a bow shot (though you get no additional Discipline). If you need to do some power leveling before reaching the Dragon’s Dogma 2 endgame, farming enemies with the Medusan Spellbow equipped is a great way to do it.
