Squads are a vital part of Infection Free Zone, as they add an element of real-time strategy to the management city builder game. They’re also the most thematic aspect of the game, being responsible for scavenging and fighting the undead head-on. In short, they’re great. But how do you make a new Squad?
Making a New Squad in Infection Free Zone
To create a new Squad, you must first make sure to have enough free workers. Workers aren’t assigned to Squads the way they are assigned to any other job. Instead, a Squad permanently removes 4 free workers who don’t currently have an occupation from the available workforce. Creating a Squad in Infection Free Zone is an important choice, so make sure you really need one before proceeding.
You can assign and unassign workers to different tasks with the Citizens menu, represented by the outlines of two people, in the bottom left of the UI. If the Citizens menu doesn’t show at least four workers as idle, you can remove them from their tasks by clicking on the minus sign (-).
Once you have four available workers, click on the Squad menu in the top left corner and then on “Create New Squad”. Your new team of scavengers will be waiting for you in one of your Headquarters.
How to Raise the Squad Number Limit in Infection Free Zone
When your survivors’ encampment starts turning into a city, complete with factories and medical bays, you’ll need a lot more than six groups of armed guards and scavengers. Increasing the limit on the number of active Squads is simple: just create more Headquarters. Even a small one will increase this limit by two, bringing the initial six to a total of eight.
To create a Headquarters, just click on the Buildings menu in the bottom right, select Headquarters from the list, and then click on a building of your liking. I suggest using a small building as your second HQ since it’s cheaper and much faster to build. Make sure to place it at a certain distance from the first, so that your colony can benefit from its other uses.
Should you raise the limit on the number of Squads as soon as possible? Probably not, since it requires a significant investment of time, workers, and resources. Either way, six Squads are more than enough to scavenge and protect a small town in the early game. At the very least, I suggest you make sure you have enough firearms and ammo to arm them all before thinking of employing so many troops.
Alternatively, you can always use one of Infection Free Zone’s console commands to unlock more Squads. Or, if you’re struggling to get through the game, check out our other Infection Free Zone guides.
