When you first start playing Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s not entirely clear how to manually save your game. Yes, there’s an autosave feature that will keep you from starting all over if you die or make a mistake, but if you want to manually save at a specific point, you’ll have to dig through the menu just a bit.
Unlike most AAA games of the last, oh, decade, RDR 2 doesn’t have its save function clearly listed in the menu. This part’s obvious, but when you’re in game, hit Start on Xbox One or Options on PS4 to jump into the main menu.
Once in the menu, hit the tab labeled ‘Story‘. From there, you’ll see ‘Save’, ‘Load’, etc., and you can manually save your progress.
You may also want to know how RDR 2‘s autosave feature works. Essentially, the game autosaves right before a mission, after a mission, when you bathe, sleep, shave, buy or sell an item, or travel a certain distance (although this last part is a little unclear).
Corrupted Red Dead 2 Saves
Plenty of people in the comments below have shared their issues with Red Dead Redemption 2’s saving, and many have reported dealing with corrupted save files. Unfortunately, beyond starting a new game, there’s little you can do to solve this issue, as of yet.
One of the things you can do to help Rockstar learn about and deal with these issues is by contacting them an leaving a ticket. To do so, reach out here: Rockstar Support Page.
