To begin marrying your citizens in TES: Castles, you have to reach Dynasty level nine and unlock the Shrine of Mara. Once available to build, place the Shrine of Mara in a 2×2 room. It doesn’t require any resources to build, you just need to have the space.

Once your Shrine of Mara is built, assign two citizens to the room. You can place friends, people who barely know each other, or lovers in the room by dragging them there. Alternatively, you can click on Mara and select two people using the popup card. Friends and lovers will decide to tie the knot quickly, resulting in a marriage ceremony that attracts many members of the castle.

How to Spot a Failed Couple

After placing two people in the Shrine of Mara, you may be sitting there wondering why the marriage ceremony hasn’t happened. In some cases, the two people assigned won’t be compatible. If the screen is zoomed out, you may not see the dialogue that can occur between them.

Zooming in to the Shrine of Mara will show you that the citizens aren’t interested in romance. One of them can say it isn’t going to work or they’re not feeling it. When you see this, simply switch out that citizen for another eligible single.

Marriages might not occur for a number of reasons. This can include two enemies being assigned to the shrine together, two races that hate each other, and even status.
