Placing the HQ in Infection Free Zone is the first real decision you’ll have to make, right after selecting a map. It’s also most likely to be the first mistake you’ll make. Thankfully, moving the Headquarters into a new, better-suited building is easy, even if the game never tells you how to do it.
Like many other titles in the genre, learning how to turn your survivor group into a thriving society, failing to do so many times along the way, is the heart of the game. But sometimes Infection Free Zone can be a bit inscrutable, keeping important information from its players, as is the case with moving the HQ.
How to Move the Headquarters to Another Building
You can’t really move the Headquarters in Infection Free Zone, the same way that you can’t move other building specializations. What you can do instead is assign another building to your Headquarters. Even if the name implies that there should be only one of them per zone, there doesn’t seem to be a limit to how many HQs you can have.
To make a building into a Headquarters, click on the Buildings menu in the bottom right, represented by a stylized building. Click on the word Headquarters under the Basic submenu (the one that looks like a house). Now, click on the building that you want to turn into your new HQ. Soon, your workers will start working on turning this building into an HQ.
Weirdly enough, even though “Headquarters” seems to a normal building specializations, there doesn’t seem to be a way to destroy them or adapt them into something else. I’ve tried multiple approaches that work for buildings like dwellings and warehouses, but to no avail. Hopefully, this will be addressed in a future patch or update.
Where should you build the Headquarters
A smaller HQ will be faster to build, but it will give you less space for materials and a low living quarters capacity. That said, other buildings can take better care of those needs: building shelters and warehouses is generally better than creating a massive HQ since they require fewer materials, are faster to build, and can be dislocated in the best position for the task.
That said, the Headquarters is a very important building, especially at the start of the game. One of the main objectives of the game is to defend the HQ, which represents the survival of your entire colony. Another important aspect to consider is that building more Headquarters allows you to create squad units above the initial limit of six.
Now you know all there is to know about moving the Headquarters in Infection Free Zone. If you’re still struggling with the game after repositioning your HQ, there is no shame in using some of the Infection Free Zone cheats, or you can check out our other Infection Free Zone guides.
