How to Plant and Water Seeds in Lightyear Frontier

Start your own garden easily!

Like it or not, agriculture is an important part of Lightyear Frontier, and while some players will find the watering part menial, others will perceive it as a relaxing and comfy activity. At any rate, let’s show you how to plant and water seeds and sprouts in Lightyear Frontier.

How to Build a Plot in Lightyear Frontier

While in your base, press “B” to enter the build mode. Then, go to the star card (it’s the second card on my end). There, you will see a “Small Plot.” Left-click it to enter the placement mode.
In this mode, you can use the scroll wheel to rotate the plot and press Shift to enter “Free Mode” (without Free Mode, the game just locks the position of the item you’re placing next to something else).

While Free Mode allows you the freedom of building wherever you want, you should keep it off in most cases, especially if you want to make a big, tightly formatted grid of plots (3×3 or something of the sort).
When you have finished placing the plot, press the Left Mouse button (LMB), and the structure will be placed. Here’s a step-by-step image guide:

Now, you need to press the Right Mouse button (RMB) to leave the build menu. After you do that, approach the plot and hold “E” to pour all required items into it and finish the construction. If you need more items, you will quickly see what you are supposed to get.

Small Plot requires the following items:

  • 8x Wood
  • 12x Plant Fiber

These are easy to get; just cut down some trees and bushes in your immediate surroundings.

Oh, and by the way, make sure to build your plot near a source of water; you’ll thank me later.

How to Plant Flower and Tree Sprouts in Lightyear Frontier

Once your plot is built, select the Seed Shooter if you’re planting regular plants, or Sprout Cannon if you want to plant flowers and trees (these do not require a Plot).

After you equip the desired tool, make sure to choose the seed/sprout you want to plant and start planting with LMB. When you are planting plants, you’ll see the outline of available Mounds (in the plots you’ve made) where you are allowed to plant stuff, so just aim straight and shoot those seeds in the soil. I’ve found no specific rules regarding sunlight, growing certain plants together, etc. So basically, you just plant it, water it, and be done with it for the day.

If you’re planting a sprout, the tooltip will be colored red if you cannot plant it there, so make sure to move around your mouse until the game turns the indicator blue.

Now, here comes the “just add water” trope, which will feed your plants and let them grow in the following days.

How to Water Seeds and Sprouts in Lightyear Frontier

Watering Sprouts is easy. You do it once and let nature take its course, as it might take several days for the sprouts (whether they are trees or flowers) to fully grow. Watering plants in the plots is a slightly tedious task.

Every day, you need to water every single “square” in the plot. You will see the blue outline for each square that needs fresh water. I found out that if you just gently tap your mouse button two times while aiming at the square you’re trying to water, you won’t waste a lot of water, and the square will be considered watered (it will change its color to a dark tint of brown). Spraying water maniacally and wastefully over the entire plot will just have you walking to a water source to refill your Irrigation Hose more often than you need to. (It’s a subtle lesson about wasting precious water, isn’t it?)

One more important thing that I’ve noticed is that when it rains, your plots are automatically watered for that day. This is a nice “realism” touch by the developers that will probably make you love the rain in the game.

How to Harvest Plants in Lightyear Frontier

This is the simplest part of the process. Once you see that your plants are thriving and that they’re in a mature stage, you can pick them. The Vacuum Harvester is the best tool for this, but nothing’s stopping you from using the Spike Saw. Now that I’ve mentioned the Spike Saw, It’s the tool you’ll use to harvest trees and flowers you’ve planted.

That’s all about planting, watering, and harvesting in Lightyear Frontier that I’ve got for you. I invite you to check out stuff such as all Pine Heights noxious slime locations at our game hub right here at GameSkinny!
