Operations in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 are one-off missions that are tied to the campaign but follow a different set of characters. This is one of the modes in which you can use a dedicated multiplayer class instead of your usual jack-of-all-trades character. But can you Play Operations from Space Marine 2 in Single Player?
How to Play Operations from Space Marine 2 in Single Player
Currently, playing Operations in single player mode, using AI companions instead of other players connected online, is not fully available. Switching to Operations in the Battle Barge immediately tries to assigns you some player comparison, with no way to switch them out.
That said, there’s a trick to play Operation mode solo, even if it comes with some drawbacks. You can interrupt your internet connection to force the game to go into offline mode. Entering the Operation mode in offline mode (and stay disconnected all-throughout) seems to do the trick, allowing you to play with AI companions.
Hopefully, as the game expands and gets patched, a new way to play solo Operations will become available. Better solo play isn’t on Space Marine 2’s update roadmap, but the studio did promise that Operation mode would be playable in single player. It’s impossible to say for sure, but there is a chance that this mode will come in the future.
Entering Offline Mode in Space Marine 2
Is there any way to enter offline mode in Space Marine 2 beyond disconnecting your whole machine? The answer is yes, but you might now want to do that. The reason is simple. First, you need to apply the firewall correctly, which isn’t that easy if you’ve never done it before. Second, the game seems to lose its save functionality while in offline mode. You would have to activate and deactivate the firewall every time you switch from Operations to Campaign mode or forgo saving altogether.
You might still need an internet connection because you’re downloading something, or streaming some music, or literally anything else. If that’s the case, you’re going to have to use your firewall. Usually, blocking the executable file that starts the game is enough to disconnect the whole program, but not with Space Marine 2. You’ll have to block the entire install folder. For a Steam install, the folder is Space Marine 2 in SteamLibrary/steamaps/common.
