How to Holster Your Weapon in Fallout 76

To holster your weapon in Fallout 76, press and hold the Ready/Reload button. If you only press this button, you’ll reload your weapon (or not do anything with melee weapons), so keep holding it until you see your character starting the holster animation.

Here’s how to put you weapon away in Fallout 76 based on your platform:

  • PC: R key
  • PlayStation: Square button
  • Xbox: X button

If you need to pull your weapon back out again, you must press the Ready/Reload button again. Doing so makes it easier than unequipping and reequipping your weapon using your pip-boy.

While having a weapon drawn doesn’t affect your interactions with NPCs like in Fallout: New Vegas, it will dictate your base movement and sprint speed when drawn. For instance, bigger guns like the missile launcher, mini-guns, flamers, and .50 cal will slow down your speed more than a pistol would. This change in speed can make a difference when fighting enemies if you are using a build where you don’t want them within punching distance.
