How to Set Up a Script Hook for RDR2

Looking to make your RDR2 gameplay a bit more fun?

I believe that not even a day has passed since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) without players looking up Script hooks. Getting unlimited ammo, different weapons or animals to spawn, and much more is always fun when you’re looking to relax and maybe kill a 100 lawman for no particular reason.

However, it seems that some of the old Script hooks have stopped working, so I looked into this topic to discover how to set up a working trainer and get yourself anything you want in RDR2 in seconds!

How to Get a Script Hook in RDR2

Note: Before setting up any scripts in your RDR2, you should be aware that editing game files can cause your game to crash, experience bugs, and maybe even remove some of your game files. Make sure you have everything important backed up before proceeding.

One of the most popular Script hooks out there is one from Alexander Blade, who also worked on scripts for GTA IV, GTA V, Skyrim, and Fallout. However, it seems that that one is leading to some bugs for certain players, so we wanted to explore all possibilities that can help you set up a working trainer.

ScriptHookRDR2 V2 by kepmehz appeared to try to fix the issue for all those players for whom the Alexander Blade trainer didn’t work or showed bugs in big cities. But if you want to use this Script hook, you’ll need to set up a mod loader first.

How to Install a Script Hook in RDR2

Getting a Script hook running in RDR2 isn’t too hard. All you need to do is download the mod folder (it will usually be zipped), take ScriptHookRDR2.dll and dinput8.dll files from it, and paste them into your game’s directory. Keep in mind that in Script hooks, you might only have a dinput.dll file.

To quickly find your game directory for RDR2, simply open your Steam Library, right-click on the game, and select “Browse local files.” If you don’t have RDR2 on Steam, you can simply navigate to your game folder by going to Local Disk > Program Files > Rockstar > Red Dead Redemption 2.

What Is a Script Hook in RDR2

Script hooks are trainers that you can add to your RDR2 (single-player only; it does not work for RDR2 Online). They allow you to simply pull up a menu while in-game and add basically anything you want to your character or your surroundings.

For example, you can spawn different animals, get any weapons and ammo you’d like, spawn different horses, control the weather, and even get cannons and guns that you could use in a couple of missions throughout the story. The possibilities are endless with a tool like this.

If you’ve ever watched viral videos on social media where people showcase different scenarios in the game where they are chased by 30 Legendary Bull Gators or where they place 100 people on the train tracks waiting to be mauled by the incoming train, well, those were all done with the help of Script hooks!
