Snail, also known as Achatina, may be the slowest animal in Ark: Survival Ascended, but its secretion is just as valuable as a cementing paste. In my guide, I’ll show you how to tame a snail in Ark: Survival Ascended, including tips on how to find and use this creature.
Best Taming Strategy for Snail (Achatina)
I discovered that to tame the snail, I could use only one type of food: Sweet Vegetable Cake. That’s the only food that can tame it and the only food that it’ll eat afterward. The cooking recipe is the following:
- 2 Giant Bee Honey
- 4 Sap
- 2 Rockarrot
- 2 Longrass
- 2 Savoroot
- 4 Stimulant
- 25 Fiber
- 1 Water
Note that most of the snail’s body is covered and protected by a thick shell, which is very hard to penetrate. That’s why I highly recommend focusing only on the soft areas of its body. Once it receives enough damage, you’ll see how it retreats inside its own shell. You could also use either the Shocking Tranquilizer Darts or regular Tranquilizer Darts to send it into torpor for easier taming.
How to Find Snail in Ark: Survival Ascended
Achatina mostly roams such areas as marshes and jungles, including The Writhing Swamps, Redwood Forests, and The Eastern Forest. I marked these areas where they appear most frequently on the map below at the following coordinates:
- 62.63 LAT, 36.59 LON
- 43.78 LAT, 79.64 LON
How to Use Snail in Ark: Survival Ascended
The main reason why so many players are looking to tame the snail is due to its ability to passively produce two of the most important resources in the game:
- Achatina Paste
- Organic Polymer
The snail passively produces 1 Achatina Paste, which is exactly like cementing paste, inside its inventory every minute in real-time. If you want 1 Organic Polymer, you will get it every hour in real-time.
I also suggest using the Gacha creature to pick up the snail’s feces, which also serve as cementing paste. Any material that would require cementing paste can be crafted in the same way as with the Achatina Paste, including such important items as firearms, saddles, explosives, cannons, etc. So, for the best farming strategy, I recommend building a simple wooden box, putting both the snail and the Gacha inside it, and picking up the cementing paste and the polymers every hour or so.
But that’s not it, as you can also use its shell as a sort of cover, which can absorb up to 90% of damage. If you equip it with headgear, such as a Chitin helmet, it’ll be able to absorb even more damage than that. Although Achatina is a large creature, it’s really easy to transport, as you can simply pick it up and carry it to any destination manually.
