I do not know where the goodwill from Valve and our “Lord and Saviour” Gabe Newell came from. This CS2 update has definitely brought a lot of hope for the CS2 Community: Overwatch is back, everyone! Let’s see how we can unlock Overwatch in CS2 and ban some cheaters!
How to Participate in Overwatch Cases in CS2
At this moment, it is not known how you can participate in solving Overwatch cases in CS2. If we’re going by how it worked in CS:GO, you should see a clear and distinctive icon that prompts you to enter the Overwatch mode.
Some data miners claim that you will see a shield icon in the top-left corner of your screen in the main menu when Overwatch becomes available. I haven’t gotten it yet, and this could be either because I do not meet the conditions, or the Overwatch completely ignores all reports made before this day, and will take a while before actually showing up in players’ menus. When I learn something new on the matter of Overwatch in CS2, I’ll be updating this article, so bookmark it and make sure to check back at a later date.
Here are the three most reasonable locations where Valve would put the Overwatch option for players. At the time of writing this article, I have checked many platforms and haven’t found anyone actually doing the Overwatch cases in CS2, so I believe that my assumption about Overwatch demo gathering beginning today might actually be correct.
In the April 26, 2024 update, a sneaky line of text in the Patch Notes announced that Overwatch is back. Given that the state of the CS2 community has never been worse when it comes to sentiment around the number of cheaters plaguing the official matchmaking modes, famous CS2 content creators quitting the “bang-bang” (Premier and Competitive) part of the game (but for some reason still supporting the state of CS2 by opening thousands of cases in-game).
What are the Requirements to Join the Overwatch in CS2?
Valve is very secretive when it comes to many things, and we currently don’t know what are the requirements to join the Overwatch in CS2. If we have to go by what were the conditions back in CS:GO, the following could be taken into account and I guess I will be very close to this approximation (once again, I’ll make sure to update this as soon as I get some official information):
- How many hours you’ve put in CS2?
- What’s your Premier ranking (in CS:GO you had to be Gold Nova 1, which is a pretty low bar, so I guess 10,000+ Premier Rating at least)?
- How many wins do you have in the Premier mode? Given that CS2 is relatively new, they might put this at 50 if they decide to implement such a measure.
- What’s your Trust Factor?
- Do you have Prime Enabled?
- How many recent policy violations (competitive cooldowns) you’ve had?
Did you know that you can now finally hold your weapons in your left hand in CS2? Well, now you do. For more CS2 coverage go to our CS2 game hub.
