X-Samkok: How to Upgrade Characters

Step 1: Use Extra Copies of Your Characters

The best and easiest way to upgrade your characters is to use the Star Up system, which consumes all the extra copies of the same type of characters (i.e., Shu or Wei), even of the lower tiers, that you get from your daily gachas. All you need to do here is follow these steps:

  1. Go to your home screen.
  2. Tap the “Officers” icon.
  3. Select the character you wish to upgrade.
  4. Tap the 5-Star Officer icon.
  5. Select all the characters you wish to use a star resource.
  6. Confirm by tapping “OK” button.
  7. Tap the “Star Up” button on the bottom.
  8. Keep tapping it until your extra copies are exhausted.

Note that you just want to upgrade one or two of your best officers and use others as a resource for upgrading. If you start ranking up too many characters at the same time, you’ll be out of resources very quickly.

Step 2: Use Rank Pills from the Tower of Trials

Rank Pills are mainly used in X-Samkok for awakening your characters. I usually get my Rank Pills from the daily rewards. But there’s a way to make even more of these by following through with the “Tower of Trials,” which is available right under the “Isle of Heroes.” If you don’t want to do the trials, then you can also simply purchase them from the “Shop.” Note that one Rank Pill will cost you 25 Gold, but of course, it’s better to just buy them in bundles and save your gold for other resources.

Regardless of the way you choose to earn Rank Pills, here’s how you can use them to upgrade your characters:

  1. Go to your home screen.
  2. Tap the “Officers” icon.
  3. Select the character you wish to upgrade.
  4. Tap the “Awaken” button.
  5. Confirm by tapping the “Activate” button.

Note that you may also need another copy of your officer for awakening to take place. But once your character is awakened, you get a whole array of fantastic changes that can dramatically change the course of your game. These changes include:

  • Awakening generally boosts your officer’s base stats, such as attack, defense, and health, making them stronger in combat.
  • Some characters may unlock new skills or enhance existing ones upon awakening, but this varies from one character to another.
  • Finally, the awakened characters change their appearance, making them look a bit larger on the battlefield.
