Barbed Hooks are combat-oriented items you find in the early game and beyond that don’t have a description on how to use them. It doesn’t help that you get tons of them without an explanation about their associated skill. Here’s how to use the Barbed Hook in Another Crab’s Treasure.
Barbed Hook Explained in Another Crab’s Treasure
Barbed Hooks in Another Crab’s Treasure are an ammunition junk item used by the Spearfishing skill. This is a specific ability unlocked in the skill tree later on once you reach the Moonsnail in the Moonsnail Cave. You have to get to the end of the dungeon and beat the crab boss to find the Moonsnail beyond. Once you unlock the skill tree, Spearfishing is on the right after the running attack impale ability.
Essentially, Spearfishing allows you to use your grappling hook on enemies, as well as terrain, at the cost of one Barbed Hook. The input is the same as grappling to terrain. You just have to point your camera at an enemy instead or lock on. The hook will pull smaller enemies closer to you, but larger enemies will resist.
Barbed Hook Tips in Another Crab’s Treasure
I like to combine the Barbed Hook with close-range Umami abilities like the soda can shell or the bottle top spin attack. It also becomes incredibly useful in the grove forest area against bow-wielding crabs that are usually perched on top of a platform, constantly shooting at you. You can automatically pull them from their platform for a few melee attacks. It can even be used to stagger larger bosses like the Royal Shellsplitter. Don’t worry about Barbed Hooks running out since you’ll find plenty of them on your journey. I just wouldn’t use them every fight if you’re in close combat to prevent wasting them.
