How to Equip Runes in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

You’ll encounter many Runes as you progress through the story, whether as loot in chests, from battles, or in the shops. Once you pick them up, you’ll find them in your Inventory under the potion vial Items tab.

This is where all your equippable items are shown. However, unlike most gear items, the Runes cannot be equipped through your Inventory menu. Instead, after the war against Chappel, you’ll need to make your way to one of the Inns or the HQ. Any place that gives you the option to look in the Item Warehouse.

You can find the Item Warehouse in the HQ on the first floor, all the way on the far left side. Speak to Sumire behind the counter, and then in the Item Warehouse menu, choose to Change Runes.

All your available Runes are under Equipment on the left side. Your available Rune Slots are circular slots on the right side. Select one of the unlocked slots to equip a Rune, and then choose the Rune you want to equip. Runes that are already in use show an ‘E’ along with the character’s face next to the Runes’ name.

How to Unlock Rune Slots in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Some heroes cannot equip or change Runes until they reach a specific level. To level them up, ensure they’re in your party formation and use them in battle as often as possible. Every time you win a battle, the heroes earn XP. On the victory screen, you’ll get a prompt saying that the hero has unlocked another rune slot.

Each hero can have up to eight Runes equipped at once. Some Rune Slots are specifically for their abilities, and others you can equip with an element or power and defense Runes. Keep leveling up the character to open up all their Rune slots.

What are Runes in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes?

Runes are a very important part of the story in the Eiyuden Chronicle and serve as lenses to empower your characters. The Rune Lenses work as special abilities, whereas the item Runes, you equip to improve your stats. These types of Runes are in your Inventory and are only equippable through the Item Warehouse.

These Runes come in a few different varieties, each working to increase a specific stat. Some give you specific elemental power, and others work to increase a basic stat. Here’s a look at some of them you can find as you play:

  • Rune of Power
  • Rune of Magic
  • Rune of Speed
  • Rune of Defense
  • Rune of HP
  • Rune of Fire
  • Rune of Earth
  • Rune of Wind
  • Rune of Water
  • Rune of Armor Piercing

It’s always best to equip a Rune that will further empower a skill that the character already has going for them. For example, if a character already has a lot of Speed and speedy attacks, giving them a Run of Speed is like icing on the cake.
