How to Use the Chainsword in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun

Of course, there will be plenty of shooting involved in this retro-styled FPS, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, but put your trusty Chainsword to use as well and cut your enemies down to size.

The retro-inspired Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun would only be an FPS with an arsenal of guns at your disposal. However, the gory Chainsword pairs nicely with those guns as a secondary weapon. Here’s how to use the Chainsword for the most deadly and satisfying results.

If you’re first starting out in Boltgun, you’ll wield the Chainsword as your only weapon until eventually locating the Boltgun. Being your only weapon, you will definitely want to know how to use the Chainsword correctly.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Chainsword Guide – How to use it

The sword is built like a chainsaw, as suggested by the name. You can hold LT at any time to start sawing. However, its leading talent is locking onto enemies and grappling toward them. To lock on, aim toward the enemy while holding LT until they glow red, and then release LT to grapple toward them.

The game will slow briefly as you lock on. Once you latch onto them, press LT rapidly to saw through them and either immediately kill them or deal a lot of damage.

Once you collect your gun and start adding more weapons to your collection as you progress, the Chainsword becomes more of a secondary weapon that you’ll most likely start using less. Even if that is the case, the Chainsword still has some advantages that could assist you through some levels.

Speedy Maneuvers

One of the ways I like to use the Chainsword is to get around faster. Funny as it sounds, the Chainsaw’s grapple moves draw you toward enemies much quicker, allowing you to get away from a larger group surrounding you or just simply kill each target that little bit faster. Latch onto an enemy and then immediately grab onto another to beast your way through without any hesitation.

Killing Blows

Bosses and enemies with more health can take a while to drain down. You may be jumping around, dodging attacks, and using your gun and explosives to damage them as much as possible, but when it comes to that final blow, the Chainsword really does the trick, and it’s much more satisfying.

Staggering

Possibly one of the most beneficial uses of the Chainsword is to stagger enemies and prevent them from completing their own attacks or abilities. The Pink Horrors, in particular, can spawn two to three blue Horrors as they are about to die, but using your Chainsword at the right time can prevent them from doing so.

These are just a few ways how to use the Chainsword, but there’s no stopping you from pulling it out and whacking enemies anytime you please. It is one of the more gory yet satisfying ways to plow down your enemies, so why not just have some fun with it?
