An action-packed trailer has surfaced on the official Call of Duty YouTube page highlighting the return of a fan favorite map. Every Call of Duty: Black Ops game has featured the close-quarters, run-and-gun Nuketown map in some form. Black Ops 3’s Nuk3town is set in the dystopian future of 2065, but remains cheery and colorful, despite impending demise.
Unfortunately for unprepared players, Treyarch (being the master marketeers that they are) have made the Nuk3town bonus map available as a pre-ordered bonus only. So you’ll have to hurry if you want it, as Black Ops 3 releases on November 6.
Additionally, Nuk3town is only available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of the game. Last-gen is becoming less and less relevant to Activision as they push their new titles into existence.
Without a doubt, Nuketown is one of the most popular maps in Call of Duty history, so players are rejoicing with the news of its inclusion.
The description on the YouTube video details the Nuk3town bonus map as,
“Re-designed from the ground up to highlight Treyarch’s new momentum-based, chained-movement system, allowing players to battle in this adrenaline-charged multiplayer map.”
While watching the trailer, it’s clear to see that the new Nuk3town is focused on advanced movement with dozens of flat walls for mounting, wide yet easy-to-close gaps, and quick multilevel transitions. The entire wall around the very open B-flag area can be run across; as demoed in the video.
If viewers stay tuned right to the end of the Nuk3town trailer they’ll be in for another small surprise.
A rumor that ran rampant in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was that shooting off all of the Nuketown mannequins’ heads within a certain time would activate a special event where the dolls would attack in a sort of zombies style. I’ve never tested this theory, and have never come across proof of the tale.
Before showing the multiplayer action of Nuk3town in the trailer, a black screen with the words “Nuk3town Online” is visible. After the title screen at the end of the video are three seconds of footage showing one of the creepy, futuristic, iRobot-y mannequins, with what can only be explained as a menacing, visible computer virus floating behind it, before returning to a black screen with the words “Nuk3town Offline”.
Will there actually be some sort of Nuk3town special event in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3? I suppose we’ll have to wait to find out until next Friday when the game is finally released.
