Is Black and White 2 on Steam?

Game preservation is important.

Black and White is a very old but still popular video game in many retro gamer circles. It was developed by Lionhead Studios, published by Electronic Arts, and released in 2005. Almost two decades later, players want to buy a copy on one of the biggest online platforms, Steam. Let’s see if Black & White 2 is available there.

Can You Get Black & White 2 on Steam?

At the moment, Black & White 2 is not available (purchasable) on Steam. Lionhead Studios shut down a while ago, and Electronic Arts is the successor to the intellectual property rights. For Black & White 2 to come to Steam, somebody from Electronic Arts would need to contact someone from Steam to get the game published (the way this process usually goes).

Where Can You Get Black and White 2?

Black & White 2 can almost be considered “abandonware” at this moment. Lionhead Studios has been sadly closed for almost a decade now, and it’s difficult to get your hands on a legit copy of Black and White 2. You may try to check various secondary markets such as Amazon and eBay for used copies (make sure to deal with established and well-rated sellers), or you can check out some of the abandonware websites out there for some hints. This is kind of sad if you are a game preservationist like I am.

GOG is one of the most popular video game storefronts for PC gamers, and sadly, GOG doesn’t have Black & White 2 either. However, the community has assembled a wishlist page that has been supported by tens of thousands of gamers. You can check out the GOG Wishlist Page for Black and White 2 here.

Can You Play Black & White 2 on Steam Deck?

If you do get your hands on Black and White 2 and possess a Steam Deck, there is a chance that you can make these two work together. A Reddit user named The Hope OfItAll_ has written a detailed guide on how you can achieve this.
