Being that multiplayer is a big draw to Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, you may be wondering if you can play with your cross-platform friends. In this guide we’ll answer whether LotR: Return to Moria is crossplay or not.
Does LotR: Return to Moria Have Crossplay?
Jon-Paul Dumont, Free Range Games’ Game Director, answered numerous questions in the various post-launch interviews online. One of the more important technical questions was about crossplay. Unfortunately, LotR Return to Moria doesn’t currently support crossplay.
However, the studio has stated that crossplay is definitely on their roadmap going forward, and it should be coming by either the end of this year or in early 2024. Some other ideas they announced for the future are also an Xbox release and shared world saves. I’d most like to see crossplay to play with my friends on PS5 release, but shared world saves do sound nice.

When Will LotR: Return to Moria Come out on Consoles?
Once the developers eventually release crossplay, the plan is to connect PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|SS players. Of course, the PC version has already been released but plans for PS5 and Xbox are already set:
- PlayStation 5: The PS5 version was delayed to December 5. 2023.
- Xbox: The Xbox X|S version is scheduled for early 2024.
As for the PC version, it’s exclusively available on the Epic Games Store for the time being. The PS5 version will lack 8-player support at launch, but this will be expanded upon later on. In fact, Free Range Games has a year’s worth of updates planned out. We hope this will inspire a large and stable community for the game it heavily relies on the online co-op aspect.
We cannot wait to see what the future holds for the game and we hope Return to Moira crossplay comes in 2023 with the PS5 launch. For more articles on the game, check out our LotR Return to Moria game hub for useful gameplay tips.
