There’s been a lot of talk about Steamboat Willie lately, the classic Mickey Mouse Disney cartoon. It’s recently entered the public domain. The v47 patch notes originally had the mascot in the image, so what gives? Is Mickey Mouse in Lethal Company?
Is Mickey Mouse Coming to Lethal Company? Why Was Steamboat Willie Mickey in the Thumbnail?
The original Mickey Mouse cartoon Steamboat Willie, which was released in 1928, recently entered the public domain. It’s free for use outside of the Disney sphere without fear of copyright claims. This all leads to a tiny moment in Lethal Company history.
When Lethal Company developer Zeekerss initially posted the patch notes for Version 47, the Steam announcement thumbnail had the Disney cartoon celebrity standing in the background not-so-menacingly.
You can see what this thumbnail looked like in the header image above. The community, of course, went nuts! It wouldn’t be entirely out of the realm of possibility for a small indie developer to add him to the game.
The Steamboat Willie cartoon and its rendition of Mickey Mouse might be public domain now, but it’s best not to test Disney’s strict IP control. One YouTube user keeps attempting to upload the Steamboat Willie cartoon, and it keeps getting copyright strikes, which have legal recourse. So Zeekerss did add Mickey Mouse to the patch thumbnail, but he’s not in Lethal Company.
Mickey Mouse Removed from Lethal Company Thumbnail
As a matter of fact, he removed the famed mouse from the thumbnail with this morning’s hotfix patch. Mickey Mouse is no longer in the Lethal Company v47 patch notes at all, officially, but softly, putting this question to rest.
Is Mickey Mouse in Lethal Company? No, he’s not. There isn’t even a new monster in v47, but there are some very notable changes with the patch. Check out more of our Lethal Company guides here on GameSkinny, such as mods to disable friendly fire and the Overtime Bonus explained.
