The Lords of the Fallen Ruiner boss will truly test your mettle. It’s got fast and aggressive attacks, combined with abilities that cause both the burning and ignite status effects. Worse, you’ll have no choice but to battle this creature in very cramped spaces. Our guide discusses how to beat the Ruiner boss in the Fitzroy’s Gorge zone.
How to Beat Ruiner in Lords of the Fallen
To beat the Ruiner, you need to avoid its hard-hitting blows that inflict both burning and ignite. The former gradually depletes your HP if it’s active, whereas the latter causes an explosion due to build-up.
Where to Find the Ruiner
You’ll encounter the Lords of the Fallen Ruiner boss halfway through the Fitzroy’s Gorge zone. After you emerge from the caverns, you’ll notice a bridge that spans a chasm. As soon as you step foot on the bridge, the Ruiner will come charging at you.
Ruiner Abilities
These are the abilities that you need to watch out for when fighting the Lords of the Fallen Ruiner boss:
- Furious Charge: Rushes toward your character’s location and rams them.
- Ruin Totem: Molten lava falls from his shield to create a totem. Whenever it’s hit, it will pulse, before causing a massive explosion.
- Shield Blow: Brings up his shield and scrapes his sword across, creating an explosion.
- Raging Strike: Empowers his axe to cause fire and ignite status effects.
- Set Ablaze: Smashes the ground with his foot, creating multiple explosions that cascade outward.
When I faced the Ruiner, the first thing that caught my eye was how small the arena was. While it spans the length of the entire bridge, width was still too narrow, which can be a hassle if you’re attempting to dodge or reposition.
Repositioning is important. I often had to move away from the Ruiner whenever its totem was active. I realized that the explosion was too devastating to even attempt to block. However, I also had to be mindful of the Ruiner’s attempts to do a Furious Charge, since it could immediately run after my character due to its bull rush move.
Ruiner Rewards
Defeating the Ruiner nets you the Ruiner Axe, a weapon that can cause fire-based status effects, and the Ruiner Helm. Its other armor pieces might drop from non-elite variants that you encounter in various stages past this point. Likewise, you’ll receive a Vestige Seed so you can create another temporary waypoint. Lastly, perhaps the most important tidbit is that you’ll be able to reach the hidden path that leads to the Shrine of Adyr.
