Nintendo recently released the 4.0.0 and 4.0.1 firmware updates for the Nintendo Switch.
The 4.0.0 update, dated October 18, 2017, was pretty hefty compared to its previous updates, with such changes as capturing video through gameplay, increasing game time available to save to video (up to 30 seconds), and being able to post the saved videos to Facebook or Twitter.
In addition to the video changes, the 4.0.0 update allows users to select new player icons from games like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Players can now also transfer data from one system to another, along with the ability to pre-purchase certain games from the Nintendo eShop. The final patch in 4.0.0 includes adding TKIP security to network search results.
An interesting feature, the 4.0.0 update allows users to match software versions with other users, for instances when one console has a more recent version than the others. Users simply have to create a group and select “Match Version with Local Users” to get started. The system match will only work on consoles that at least have the 4.0.0 update, so anyone who’s is still on 3.0.2 won’t be able to join a local group and match to the most recent 4.0.1 version.
Released October 25, the 4.0.1 firmware update returned the HDMI connection process back to its 3.0.2 version to fix some sound issues arising on certain TV models.
