Palworld is a creature catching, fighting, and building game with MMO elements mixed in. So how does multiplayer actually work, and can you play with friends on other platforms? Here are all the multiplayer details, including crossplay and cross-progression support.
Is Palworld Crossplay or Cross Platform?
Launching into Early Access on Xbox One, Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass, Palworld can be played in a variety of ways. Even though it’s releasing on multiple platforms, Palworld crossplay won’t be available at the beginning of EA between Xbox and Steam.
According to a FAQ the Pocketpair team posted to Steam, crossplay is a feature they’ll be working to implement as soon as possible.
Your guess is as good as mine as to what “as soon as possible” means, but the team is surely hard at work getting everything ready for EA launch, so we’ll have to wait and see.
It may be in the Year 1 roadmap the team plans to share soon after release. We’ll have more details then.
Does Palworld Have Cross Progression?
Though you can play the Pokemon with Guns game offline, and as a single-player experience, Palworld cross-progression won’t be available at launch.
Palworld Multiplayer Details
Even though crossplay and cross-progression won’t be available immediately between Xbox and Steam, you can still play with your friends on the same platform. Those using Game Pass will be able to play with others using Game Pass for PC, as well as Xbox players.
Dedicated servers can be created and serve up to 32 players. More information on how to make one will be available at launch, with support tools provided. Looking for something smaller? Individual teams can have four players.
If you’re used to playing solo, bringing friends to your world means you can use your single-player character.
When you travel to another server, however, you’ll need a new character, as the progression isn’t shared between worlds.
Along with friendly co-op PvE play, PvP is a feature the dev team is currently testing. With Pokemon and TemTem, the two most similar games to Palworld, having tournaments, the team wants “to find the right type of PvP that fits Palworld,” instead of simply adding in a PvP ladder.
