Papa Pear Saga is a good hopping point from Peggle and has more than 300 levels of jam-packed fun, even with the paywall reminiscent of Candy Crush Saga (also by King).
Papa Pear Saga is free to play and is available for Android and iOS devices, as well as Facebook.
The gameplay here may be similar to Peggle, but the fact that it’s free to play makes some things more cumbersome than with a game you pay for. Lives are scarce in Papa Pear Saga and power ups require either real money or some effort. Nonetheless it is a fun game worth your time on the go!
This is not meant to be a guide. Just some tips for beginners to this fun game!
The most common objectives are to clear every peg and to meet a high
score quota. You must plan your strategy accordingly and keep both objectives
in mind as you begin a level.
There are times where it is best to fire more than one pear at a time,
especially when you are running out of time. If the timer’s running short, fire
away! Just don’t go crazy at the start of a level. You can shoot up to 3 at once.
You can shoot a pear directly into a bucket for 1,000 points. You cannot hit
any pegs on your way in. You can earn 500 points for hitting the ceiling.
More power is not always better. Pay attention to your power before firing a
shot to get those tricky middle buckets or out of the way pegs and fruit.
You lose lives by failing to complete any objectives in a level. Don’t be
surprised when you lose them unexpectedly!
Lives refill over time, after around 30 minutes. You can ask your Facebook
friends for more lives. The friends on Facebook you have to gift you lives, the
easier time you will have overall.
You can only have a maximum of 5 lives, even if your friends send you more than that amount.
Don’t stress over lighting up all the buckets if it’s one of your objectives.
Focus on a level’s other objective first because you will inevitably light up buckets
as you rack up your score or go for fruit. Those pears have to fall somewhere,
and that somewhere is usually in a bucket.
Speaking of lighting bucket objectives: If you are having trouble with lids in a
level, remember they randomize each time you start.
Bucket lids can be removed by simply bouncing your pear off of them a few
times.
Corner buckets are your best friends in levels that require you to light all the
buckets. Go for the sides before aiming for the middle to get a better shot.
The more bounces, the more points you will earn! Unless you’re going for
something specific or objective-related, try to bounce as much as possible.
You don’t have to buy gold bars to get special power up pegs. They can be
earned in a level by fulfilling certain conditions. So what are they, you might ask?
Power Up Pegs | How to Get |
---|---|
Papa Fire Peg – Catches your pear on fire. Any pegs your pear comes into contact with will be destroyed. It also makes your pear immune to spikes. | Spawns by bouncing your pear from one side of the screen to the other |
Light Up Peg – Lights up one random bucket. | Spawns by firing 7 pears into the same bucket. |
Papa Grande Peg – Makes your pear bigger. Note: It will destroy pegs easier but will not bounce very well. | Spawns by bouncing a single pear at least 50 times. |
Split Papa Peg – Splits your pear into two. Great for racking up a ton of points. | Spawns by bouncing a single pear off the bucket ledges at least 5 times. |
Score Multiplier Peg – Increases your score multiplier. | Spawns by clearing all of a fruit in a level. |
Save those power up pegs the game gives you for when you need them most.
You never know what’s to come!
Two additional power ups, one giving an aim reticule and one a bomb named
Pomegranate, can be obtained via means other than fulfilling certain
requirements in a level.
And that’s it! I hope these tips come in handy. Good luck and have fun with Papa Pear Saga!
