Here's how to fix matchmaking not working in Payday 3.

As an always-online game, Payday 3 is bound to run into some connectivity issues, barring you from getting in and heisting with your friends. How to Fix Matchmaking Error in Payday 3 (Multiplayer Not Working)

Though there’s no guarantee anything will fix the matchmaking error in Payday 3, there are a few things to try when multiplayer’s not working:

  • Leave matchmaking, return to the home screen, and try multiplayer again.
  • Exit the game and restart it.
  • Update Payday 3 with the latest updates.
  • Restart your PC or console.
  • Check the Payday 3 server status.
  • Check your internet connection.
  • Check your antivirus and firewall settings (PC).
  • Wait for an official fix from developer Starbreeze.
  • Play at a different time when servers have more capacity.

It’s also possible for matchmaking to take a long time at launch. Though I’ve only received the error once, I’ve sat multiple times for 5 minutes or more to start even a private lobby.

What Causes the Matchmaking Error in Payday 3? Answered

Typically, the Payday 3 matchmaking error appears when there are too many players trying to access the game’s servers at one time. It’s different than the Nebula log in error, but similar to the no network connection error. Usually, there’s not much you can do on your end to fix things.

However, as with any issue like this, it’s always good to make sure that the problem isn’t on your end. You can do so by following the steps outlined above. Further, I always suggest anyone playing online games use a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi. It’s stronger and more reliable.

At launch, Starbreeze Studios has acknowledged that the Payday 3 servers are having issues and that the matchmaking error is running amok through the playerbase across all platforms. The team is working to resolve the issues but is having trouble identifying them.

Indeed, it’s likely that you’ll continue to run into this issue throughout the game’s first weekend, and it’s liable to crop up a few more times throughout the game’s life cycle. Your best bet is to keep trying until you get in or try again later.

That’s what you need to know about how to fix the matchmaking error in Payday 3, where multiplayer isn’t working. For more on the online co-op shooter, check out our guides hub.
