I will steer you in the right direction so you have the most enjoyable beginning experience possible. I will save you from frustration and overall lost time because let’s face it, time is money.

For tips on making the most coins, check out my PvZ Garden Warfare Coins Guide.

This guide will cover beginning basics including:

  • Starting Modes – Which game modes to start with.
  • Sticker Packs – The best packs to buy based on their value.

Starting Modes – Choosing the best mode to start with

When playing the game for the first time, every character starts with one ability. You have to level up to unlock the rest.

  • There are 3 total abilities per character, so you must get to level 3 for each character to have all the abilities.
  • You gain levels by completing the given challenges for each class. You can view these at the character screen or by pressing start during a match.

Team Vanquish or Welcome Mat are the best modes to begin with because you want to level up your characters as quickly as possible.

Welcome Mat and Team Vanquish – Everyone starts somewhere

  • Welcome Mat is a beginning game mode that lets you get more health on your next respawn the worst you do in the match.
  • Team Vanquish is team death match. The only objective is to kill other players. The first to 50 wins.

These two modes are best because the matches will go by the fastest and the first couple levels are easy to get. This is important because you switch between plants and zombies, you cannot choose a side.

You can cycle through each plant and zombie, unlocking all abilities, the fastest by choosing these modes.

  • After unlocking abilities, you have to respawn to use them.
  • Do not play Garden Ops at the beginning if you don’t have all the abilities for a plant that you want to use.
  • You can’t respawn in Garden Ops, so you have to go through the game with whatever unlocked abilities you have. You won’t level up because the beginning challenges involve using all your abilities.

Sticker Packs – Which packs to start with

There are 5 total sticker packs you can buy. They costs coins, which you gain from completing matches.

  • Reinforcements Pack – This costs 1k coins and gives 5 consumables. These are zombies or plants that you can add to the fight during Garden Ops and Gardens and Graveyards.
  • Super Duper Pack – This costs 5k coins and gives 5 items. They are a mix of customization and consumable items.
  • Craaazy Pack – This costs 10k coins and gives 7 items. They are a mix of customization and consumable items. Guaranteed to have at least one uncommon item and a high likelihood of a Rare character piece.
  • Supremium Pack – This costs 20k coins and gives 9 items. You have a high likelihood of character items and weapon upgrades. Guaranteed at least one Super Rare item and has the best likelihood of a Super Rare character piece.
  • Spectactular Character Pack – This costs 40k coins and gives 5 items. Guaranteed to unlock a Rare or Super Rare character. If you already have some pieces of the character, you get additional items.

The best value depends on what you want. If you really want to unlock another character, then save up for the Spectacular pack. If you want the most items, and the possibility of getting character pieces, then go with Supremium.

  • Character pieces give you one of five pieces needed to unlock a new character.
  • The Spectacular Character pack bypasses this and just unlock a character.

Starting off, I recommend buying the Super Duper Packs. These give you consumable items, but also customization options.

  • After a few of those, the best value is the Supremium Pack. These guarantee Super Rare pieces, gives items just like the others and have a chance for weapon upgrades, which helps the most besides new characters.
