Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare: Soldier Ability Customization Guide

Want to learn all about the new Soldier abilities? Then, check out this guide. I got you covered!
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

The Soldier is probably the most commonly used class on the Zombie side in Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare. For good reason, they have a fast play style, cool variants, can reach high places, and are just all around fun. Get enough Soldiers shooting and jumping around, and that will cause problems for any team of plants.

The alternate abilities make the Soldier even more versatile and fun to use. After unlocking all of them, enemies will have to think twice when going up against a Soldier. I’ll cover each new ability in this guide. I’ll also go over the differences between the old and new abilities, times to use each, and combat tips for each.

To get a better understanding on how the Soldier class works, visit my Soldier Guide. For explanations on each variant, go to my Soldier Variants Guide. If you need help with anything else related to Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare, check out my Master Guide List.

This guide will cover everything about the alternate abilities for Soldier including:

  • Soldier Alternate Abilities – What they are and what they do.
  • Ability Differences – How the new abilities compare to the old ones.
  • Ability Tips – When to use each version of the abilities and combat tips.

Soldier Alternate Abilities

The normal abilities for the Soldier are: ZPG, Rocket Jump, and Zombie Stink Cloud. The alternate abilities are: Multi-Rocket, Rocket Leap, and Super Stink Cloud.

Multi-Rocket

The Multi-Rocket shoots 3 rockets instead of one like the ZPG. The difference is that each rocket does less damage than a normal ZPG.

Ability Tips

  • Although each rocket does less damage, if you hit an enemy with all 3, it is devastating.
  • You can move the target for each rocket, so you can cover more area with Multi-Rocket, even though you’ll do less damage.
  • This is helpful for getting rid of Potato Mines and other traps placed by the plants team.

Rocket Leap

The Rocket Leap does not make you go as high in the air as the Rocket Jump. Instead, it increased the distance you can travel in front of you.

Ability Tips

  • Use this when you need to cover more ground.
  • For getting to high and hard to reach places, the Rocket Jump is still the best.
  • This is helpful for escaping, or catching up to enemies.
  • Rocket Leap is also helpful for getting to an objective faster, such as a garden in the Gardens and Graveyards mode.

Super Stink Bomb

The Super Stink Bomb does more damage than the Zombie Stink Cloud. The drawback is that it doesn’t last as long.

Ability Tips

This ability has many uses, whether it is the old or new version. You can hide in, use it to cover allies, damage plants, use it to escape, or force plants to leave the area. The Super Stink Bomb does some of these job even better.

  • The increased damage can help kill plants easier and is great when combined with your other attacks.
  • If you are using it to hide, make an escape, or any kind of decoy, the normal Zombie Stink Cloud is better because it lasts longer.
  • When you want to do a lot of damage to plants, force Plants out of an area quicker, or take gardens more easily, the Super Stink Bomb is better.
  • Toss this into a group of plants and watch them run, or die trying!
