Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Teal Mask: How to Catch Shiny Applin

Want a Shiny Applin since I has a new evolution? Here's how!

The Teal Mask DLC introduced a new evolution for Applin called Dipplin. Shiny Applin and its previous evolutions were based on green apples, but Dipplin has a golden syrup surrounding it. Here, I’ll go over how to catch a shiny Applin in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

How to Get Shiny Applin in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Teal Mask

While you can just walk around where Applin spawn until you encounter a shiny Applin, you can do a few things to improve your abysmally low 1/4,096 odds.

I’ve found that making a Shiny Dragon Sandwich increases your encounter rate for dragons and shiny Pokemon. You’ll need x2 Avocados, x1 Hamburger, x1 Tomato, x1 Onion, and x2 Herba Mystica. Any variant will do.

If you don’t have any Herba Mystica, you can use more Avocados to increase the Dragon spawn rate, you’ll just miss out on reduced shiny odds.

If you’ve completed the entire Paldea Pokedex, you can get the Shiny Charm by talking to Professor Jacq to increase your shiny odds. Making a Shiny Drang Sandwich while having the Shiny Charm will increase your odds to 1/512. That’s a huge difference!

Where to Find Applin in the Teal Mask

Applin can be found in the Kitakami. Go to Apple Hill to the east of Mossui Town, and search the orchards. Applin will spawn in the trees, so look closely.

I recommend running around on foot since riding on your Legendary is too fast and can make it hard to spot them. Defeat any Applin you come across to spawn in their place.

You can also find them at the bottom right of the Kitakami map. However, they don’t spawn as often or in as big of an area, so you’re better off sticking to the Apple Orchard.

Even with the reduced odds, it takes me forever to find a shiny Applin, so be patient. When I’ve shiny hunted for Pokemon with these reduced odds, it still took me hours of searching.

How to Catch Applin

When you finally find your shiny Applin, you’ll want to take extra care trying to catch it. When you first encounter the Applin, I found that using a Quickball works best. This has a x5 catch rate when used on the first turn. If that doesn’t work, now you’ll have to battle it.

Since you want to be extra careful not to knock out your shiny Applin, you’ll want a Pokemon with a high attack stat that knows False Swipe. This will ensure that the Pokemon it attacks will go down to 1 HP and not knock it out. After that, start chucking Ultraballs, and you now have yourself a shiny Applin!

That’s how to find a shiny Applin in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Make sure to make a Shiny Dragon Sandwich and get the Shiny Charm to increase your odds even more. Once you get to Apple Hill, defeat any Apllin you come across that isn’t shiny, so more will spawn in.
