Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Chesnaught 7-Star Tera Raid Event Guide

Chesnaught will arrive in two 7-Star Tera Raid Events, starting this week. Here's how to beat it.

The Pokemon Company just announced the next 7-Star Tera Raid Event coming to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, featuring the Generation 6 Pokemon, Chesnaught. The event is set to run twice: From May 12 through 14 and again from May 19 through 21. What’s more, the traditional Grass / Fighting-type Pokemon will sport the Mightiest Mark and a Rock Tera Type, broadening its move pool.

Those who wish to take part in this event will first need to ensure that they’ve completed the main story and post-game events of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet or participate alongside another player who has. This involves beating each gym, Team Star Base, and Titan Pokemon in the Paldea region. Additionally, you must defeat the Pokemon League and win the Academy Ace Tournament.

With that, you can get to building your team(s) to take on Chesnaught in this 7-Star Tera Raid Battle. You can only catch one Chesnaught per save file, so you’ll want to make the most of the event. Here’s what you need to know to win the battle, including Chesnaught’s weaknesses, ability, moveset, and its best counters.

Once you complete the main story and post-game events in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, you’ll need to download the latest Poke Portal News to enter 7-Star Tera Raids. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Select Poke Portal in the X menu.
  • Select Mystery Gift
  • Choose Get Poke Portal News

After you’ve done this, you’ll have access to all 7-Star Tera Raid Events, including the upcoming battle against Chesnaught. Look for black crystals throughout Paldea to locate these events. The Chesnaught Tera Raid will be marked by a Rock-type symbol to signify its Tera Type.

In order to take down Chesnaught and capture it during the upcoming Tera Raid Event, you’ll have to become familiar with its type and move pool, and plan your team around its weaknesses.

While Chesnaught is normally a Grass / Fighting-type, it’s going to have a Rock Tera Type in the event. This means it will have access to a variety of moves that can easily counter Pokemon it’s usually weak against.

Tera Raid Chesnaught’s Weaknesses

Chesnaught will essentially become a Rock-type Pokemon with access to Grass and Fighting-type moves in this event. It’s biggest weaknesses will include:

  • Fighting
  • Grass
  • Water
  • Ground
  • Steel

While Water, Ground, and Steel-type moves will be super-effective against Chesnaught in this battle, I strongly advise against using most Pokemon of these types, as Chesnaught will likely come equipped with super-effective moves of its own. With that being said, your best bet is to move forward with a Fighting- or Grass-type partner.

Tera Raid Chesnaught’s Ability and Potential Moveset

As it stands, Chesnaught will probably come in hot with its hidden ability, Bulletproof. This will effectively nullify all ball / sphere moves like Lucario’s signature Aura Sphere and other super-effective attacks like Gyro Ball or Energy Ball.

When it comes to Chesnaught’s potential moveset, it has a lot of viable options to pull from its expansive move pool. Here’s what we can expect to see in the upcoming Tera Raid Event:

  • Stone Edge
  • Seed Bomb
  • Close Combat
  • Earthquake
  • Iron Head
  • Zen Headbutt
  • Shadow Claw
  • Synthesis
  • Bulk Up
  • Iron Defense
  • Swords Dance
  • Sunny Day

We can’t be sure exactly what moves Chesnaught will battle with until the first of the two events begins on May 12, but be prepared to see moves like this and plan your team(s) accordingly.

Best Counters for 7-Star Tera Raid Chesnaught

To defeat Chesnaught and catch it, you’ll need to make use of super-effective moves while avoiding damage whenever possible. Considering its weaknesses and move pool, the following Pokemon with these builds should do well in this event.

Annihilape

  • Rage Fist
  • Drain Punch
  • Bulk Up
  • Screech

Decidueye

  • Giga Drain
  • Nasty Plot
  • Confuse Ray
  • Feather Dance

Corviknight

  • Iron Head
  • Bulk Up
  • Screech
  • Roost

Lucario

  • Drain Punch
  • Iron Defense
  • Swords Dance
  • Screech

Koraidon
