How to Fix You Have Been Disconnected Error in Red Dead Online

Check Your Internet Speed and Connection

Your internet speed will always factor into your online play. Check your internet connection using a site like Speedtest.net to see what your speeds are like. If you’re regularly being disconnected and are using a wireless connection, you may get better and more stable speeds using a wired connection.

Router Your Restart

Restarting your router should always be a go-to when going through persistent connection issues with a game. Unplug your router for at least 10 seconds, then plug it back in to see if your connection improves.

Update Game and Console

You can often forget to update your Red Dead Online game, and this will result in problems when you try to go online. Check to see if you’ve missed the last patch and boot the game again.

Port Forwarding

Port forwarding can get you a more consistent connection to the game servers. This can be a lengthy process, so check out the Rockstar Website for official instructions on how to perform this task.

NAT Type Setting

Keep your NAT type set to Open. Strict or moderate NAT types can lead to connectivity issues, and that might be what’s causing you issues in Red Dead Online. These are done within the router settings you have so they will differ from device to device.

Firewall and Antivirus

For PC players, Check your firewall and antivirus settings to make sure they are not blocking the game in some way. It’s one of the most frustrating things you can run into with PC games, so whenever you install anything, always go to your firewall and antivirus settings and add an exception for the game you want to play. You may need to add exceptions for Red Dead Online.

Reinstall

It can take a while, but if you’re certain your connection is up to snuff and you’ve already port forwarded and ensured everything is on order, try reinstalling the game as a last resort.

Connectivity issues can either be on your end or the server’s end, hopefully one of the Red Dead Online “You have been disconnected” error fixes above works for you. Check out our collection of Red Dead Online guides for more help.
