Remnant 2 Relic Fragments Guide

Here's everything you need to know about Relic Fragments in Remnant 2.

Relic Fragments can be enigmatic items when you first begin your journey in Remnant 2. Indeed, you’ll start collecting them quickly in your first world (at least I did in Yaesha), but there’s no clear use for them right at the start, and you may be wondering where they go after you collect them. However, they’re important items that add passive buffs to everything from stamina regen to damage output. Here’s what you need to know about these important items.

How to Use Relic Fragments in Remnant 2

To use Relic Fragments in Remnant 2, you’ll need to access your Relic in your menu. These items don’t appear in your inventory alongside consumables and other such items. Instead, they are found in a submenu, where you’ll equip them. Here’s how to do it:

  • Pause the game.
  • Go into your character menu.
  • Highlight your Relic slot (bottom left side under the Gloves slot).
  • Inspect your Relic (Y on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation, RMB on PC).
  • Select any of the three slots on the left side.
  • Select a new Fragment from the list that appears.

You’ll likely already have three Relic Fragments slotted into the three spots. The game does this automatically when you pick up your first three splinters out in the world. However, they may not be the optimal ones for your build, and you’ll certainly want to swap them out to mix and match as you find more of them.

How to Get Relic Fragments

There are four ways to get Relic Fragments in Remnant 2:

  • Defeating Elites.
  • Beating Bosses.
  • Looting treasure chests.
  • Crafting them in Ward 13.

Relic Fragments are mostly found as loot drops that come from Elites and bosses. However, they can also be found in treasure chests that appear randomly in the worlds of Remnant 2. Look out for the yellow circles on your map, marking their locations as you approach them. Finally, you can visit Dwell in Ward 13 (across from Brabus and the shooting range) to craft them with 15 Relic Dust, which is found in treasure chests.

Relic Fragment Rarity Explained

It’s possible there are more, but I’ve found three rarity tiers for Relic Shards: Cracked, Ordinary, Solid, and Flawless. Friends I’ve played with have found these three different variations, as well, but no others so far. For the most part, these tiers are determined by your power level. The higher the level, the better quality Relic Fragments you’ll find. (Note: there’s some discussion that difficulty level can impact rarity, but I’ve seen Solids drop on Survivor difficulty while playing at a high power level, so you don’t have to play on Apocalypse to get them.)

Relic Fragment Colors Explained

There are three different types with distinct colors: yellow, red, and blue. They each have a wide range of effects (all governed by RNG), but they can be distilled into general categories:

  • Yellow: This color is related to support buffs, such as improving mod and skill cast speed, reducing weapon recoil, and limiting weapon spread.
  • Blue: These can be distilled down to defensive buffs, such as reducing stamina cost, increasing Blight resistance, and improving grey health regen.
  • Red: This type sits firmly in the damage buffs category, such as increasing melee damage, improving mod damage, and upping stagger damage.

How to Upgrade Relic Shards

Relic Fragments automatically upgrade themselves in Remnant 2. This happens when you find a more powerful shard of one you already have. These will rotate out on their own — no inventory management required. However, as such, there’s no way to upgrade them at Dwell or anything place manually. I suggest checking your Relic Fragments often to see what you have; I’ve gone through entire worlds not checking, only to find I had something that would have really come in handy against a particular boss.

And that’s what you need to know about Relic Fragments in Remnant 2. There’s so much more to this massive game, and no matter if you’re just getting started or have already put dozens of hours in, our R2 guides hub has plenty of articles to help you defeat The Root — and find the game’s secrets.
