As you reach Bakbattahl in the true ending area, activating the red beam will trigger A Scholarly Pursuit. It revolves around reaching the Dragon Statue that’s summoning enemies around the city. Once you reach it, should you destroy the Dragon Statue in A Scholarly Pursuit in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Destroy or Spare the Dragon Statue in A Scholarly Pursuit
Unfortunately, while it seems Capcom might’ve had plans for you to research the Dragon Statue in true ending area it currently doesn’t matter if you carry it to Phaesus’s lab or destroy it. If you destroy it, the quest ends and you get Wyrmslife Crystals and XP. On the other hand, you can Grab it and attempt to carry it to Phaesus’ lab at his request.
However, once I grabbed it and tried to carry it my character tripped after a few seconds and the statue broke. I tried reloading my save at the start of the true-ending area and did the quest again. It’s the same result, my character automatically trips. I also checked with some of my friends and Reddit threads, people’s characters seem to be on a script to trip once carrying the statue for a few seconds.
Having the statue break all the time is quite unfortunate since it would’ve been interesting to study the statue and perhaps uncover some variations for the true ending. One player on Reddit even discovered that you can shoot the Dragon Statue purple shield with an Unmaking Arrow, and it shrinks. However, this also turned out not to amount to much.
Capcom seems to have had all of these interesting ideas but perhaps didn’t have time to implement them fully, or they’re coming in with a future update. Until then, all you can do in A Scholarly Pursuit is destroy the statue. Hopefully, this changes.
That’s it for my guide on should you destroy or spare the Dragon Statue in A Scholarly Pursuit in Dragon’s Dogma 2. For more Dragon’s Dogma 2 guides check out how to get the best endgame gear and a bunch of Wyrmslife Crystals.
