Should You Join Taka or Katsura at the Consulate in Rise of the Ronin

In Rise of the Ronin, you’ll be faced with choices that will affect the outcome of the story. These choices will also influence your relationship with certain characters. You’re faced with one of these choices in the Assassinate Harris mission. So, should you join Taka or Katsura at the Consulate in Rise of the Ronin? 

Rise of the Ronin: Should You Join Taka or Katsura at the Consulate

When you first reach Yokohama, you’ll quickly learn about the two opposing factions, the Anti-Shogunate and the Pro-Shogunate. The story will change depending on the side you align with.

Taka Muryaman sides with the Pro-Shogunate Faction. They want to open up trade with the West and form an alliance with the Western forces in Japan. Taka will ask you to save Hariss from an assassination plot. 

On the other hand, Kogoro Katsura aligns with the Anti-Shogunate Faction. They want to eliminate the Shogunate and Western forces and preserve Japan. Katsura will ask for your assistance in assassinating Harris. 

You’ll also be given specific rewards depending on who you side with. 

• Taka – Three Silver Coins
• Katsura – Exquisite Rifle 

So, who should you meet at the consulate? You should choose whichever faction you align with the most. The mission will play out the same for whoever you decide to meet. If there’s a character you’re interested in romancing, you should side with the faction they’re in. 

However, if you’re unsure which faction you want to support yet, you can still support the other side after this mission. You can play both sides for a while in the game before making a final decision. Just be careful because this will affect your Bond with certain characters.
