Should You Take the Cart to the Capital or Go By Yourself in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

To go by cart or to go by foot, that is the question in Dragon's Dogma 2.

As you beat the Cyclops with the Watchhead while walking toward the capital, he’ll ask you whether you want to fast-travel to the capital by ox cart or go there yourself. So should you take the cart or go to the capital yourself in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

As soon as you beat the Cyclops and get past the dam, there’ll be an ox cart waiting for your party which you can take to “fast-travel” to Vernworth. While this is a faster way to get there since you can Doze Off (Triangle on PS5), I would highly recommend walking to the capital yourself.

Besides this being a fun adventure, you can level up a lot, rank up your Vocation, get some better gear, and gather a ton of healing consumables and crafting materials. The trip will take you about an hour to complete, and there are plenty of campsites to rest and restore your HP on the way. Furthermore, you can find more Golden Scarabs this way and earn more gold through various encounters before you reach the capital. Be on the lookout for plants to gather for crafting healing potions or Riftstones to summon pawns if needed.

This sets you up with a lot of crafting material for enchanting gear, gold to buy better equipment from the city’s merchants, and discipline points and EXP to unlock skills in the Vocation guild. Overall, the trip gives you a great head start on the game, making the city’s main missions drastically easier since you’ll be stronger.

That said, if you’re not looking for a challenge, I wouldn’t recommend traveling at night since higher-level bosses can spawn like the Troll or the Griffon. Lastly, be sure to check out the mini dungeon marked above for some great Thief gear early on and a ton of gold.

That concludes my guide on should you take the cart to the capital or go by yourself in Dragon’s Dogma 2. For our Dragon’s Dogma 2 hub for more tips and tricks.
