It’s not going to take long for you to want to build a shelter in Sons of the Forest to keep the cannibals at bay. You need walls, a floor, and preferably a door for a safe shelter. In this guide, we’re going to go over how to make a floor for your shelter.

How to Build a Floor in Sons of the Forest
The first thing you’ll want to do is gather logs by cutting down trees. With a log in hand, hold the primary action button (LMB/RT by default) to put the log down where the dotted lines are shown.
Then, you’ll connect logs to form a square by using the arrows to guide your placement.
How to Make Planks
After you have a square of logs to make the frame of the floor, you’ll want to split logs into planks. To do this, stand at one end of the log while holding your axe and angle your screen until red dotted lines are shown.
Use the primary action button twice and you’ll have some planks. You can carry up to four at a time. From here, you’ll take them to your floor’s base and use the arrows once again to guide your placement. It will take five planks to complete each log frame to create a floor.
You now know how to build a floor, and you’re probably going to want to be putting down a lot of them. Check out our Sons of the Forest guide for building defensive walls to continue improving your base, or you can take a look at how to assign hotkeys to make your quest to survive a little easier.
